Venerable Twin Otter rides again

Production of the DHC-6 Twin Otter got a major boost this month with the announcement of the Abu Dhabi based Global Aerospace Logistics order of over $44M for 10 of the workhorse aircraft. Deliveries of the Twin Otter will be produced by Viking Air of Canada, are expected to begin next year with the order completion by 2012. The order consists of six landplane and four Guardian 400’s, the maritime patrol, SAR (Search and Rescue) and ISR (Infrastructure Surveillance and Reconnaissance) version, which can be float equipped. Also an option for the Guardian 400 are the upgraded Pratt & Whitney PT6A-35 engines, enabling better performance in Hot and High conditions.
Viking Air is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for the de Havilland line of products, from DHC-1 to DHC-7 and holds several type certificates for these aircraft.
