Cliped from internal memo sent out this afternoon. Looks like the process has changed slightly. Looks like a half day interview now with a panel interview instead of the 1 on 1.

...As always, having a 737 Type Rating is important, since candidates with this type rating would be available for class immediately following their selection. Current application minimums can be reviewed at southwest.com. However, please be aware that those are only the minimum requirements needed to submit an application. All applications are carefully screened for career progression, job history, Pilot-in-command experience, college degree, status as a Flight Examiner, and currency. We also try to pull candidates with a variety of backgrounds to form a well-rounded interview group. At Southwest, we hire for attitude and train for aptitude. The goal of the interview day is to find candidates who have the qualifications listed above and who also display a Servant’s Heart, Warrior Spirit, and, of course, Fun-LUVing Attitude.
The interview groups are made up of six applicants in the morning and six applicants in the afternoon. The half-day interview in Dallas begins with a tour of Headquarters, fingerprinting, and paperwork, followed by a panel interview consisting of the candidate, a Pilot, and a Recruiter. A second interview focuses directly on the applicant’s logbook and flight history and is conducted by a Pilot. The last event is a Line Oriented Interview conducted by two Pilots......

And that attitude right there is why most airlines today are failing. We just don't know how to serve in order to lead...

CLOWN sounds good send me your resume and I will work it for ya!

No thanks. Two of my buds are sending buddy passes so I can go into their lounges with them and meet the Chief Pilots. They both think I'm a sure thing.

nothing is a sure thing Clown.

I can't believe it - the other day I actually agreed with the General and today I agree with your post. Amazing!

Thank you for refraining from military-bash in your response to the Clown.

I actually think he was yanking chain, but if not I wonder if Clown knows about the Pilot Decsion Board "star chamber" that really makes the hiring decisions here??

Schlong,

BD

That's where my ins are bro. If I can make it to the board, then I'm golden. One of my buddies is a senior check airman, the other is a very senior Capt.

Don't worry, when I meet you in the jet way you'll never know who I am.

Good luck to you. BTW, neither of your buddies will have any influence at the decision board.

Hate to tell you but many far better than you with those same connections have failed to get the call. Good luck to you.

Wow...senior check airman with no influence with the chief pilots on the board? Ok? I'll take my check airman buddy vs your FO buddy. BTW, my friend thinks if they open another base he has a good chance of being at least an asst chief pilot or a part time CP (whatever that is).

I guess I'll see you guys in the big D!

Ya, and you just picked up that 737 type for grins?

No, he got it the old fashioned way (the same way I did) - by having an airline send him to training when his Captain bid came in. Not everyone pays for their 737 type.

Are flying that BBJ at NetJets?

I assume you're talking to me. No, I work for Jet Aviation. Got my type at Vanguard Airlines (IATA code: NJ) back in 2000.

I'll do whatever it takes to get you guys to comply with FAA directives. Come on man, I put my family on your airline.

Good luck TC. Hopefully you will get in so you can finally make a difference and clean things up around here. Send me an email so I can give you a reference...can never have too many. We could definitely use a guy like you!

Thanks! I hope I can help make SWA a safe airline. I swear, if there's so much as a light bulb burnt out, then there's no way I'll be flying on that jet. Might not be a big deal in a domocile, but out on the road, good luck finding a new copilot. It will force them to make safety the top priority.

Tanker, you'll be almost single handedly saving SWA from the FAA! (light bulbs were next on the top secret inspectors list) :D

Good luck to you dude and when you are done with your connections I need to borrow them because I'm ready for a second chance!!!

I don't think my connections would be willing to help you if they didn't know you. These guys have the ears of a few of the Chief Pilots.

I don't think I can single-handedly change SWA, but hopefully I'll be a fresh face in the organization. They need new safety minded blood to say "NO" to flying in potentially unsafe situations.

Dear SWA 'Board',

Watch for a guy with these ratings (T-37, T-1, KC-135R/T, KC-10) with less than 2,000 hrs (pretty low time) who will "pretend" to have a servant's heart and who is naive enough to say SWA needs a fresh face (5700 pilots there now) to make them "safe".

I have seen guys like you who, during new hire class, think they are somehow different and are going to be the ones who are going to kick some Captain's ass on every other flight because of some 'safety' issue...then they find out things are quite safe. You make some sort of macho call on safety, you better make sure you are right because you'll be shown the door real quick otherwise. SWA has an airline to run.

Your arrogance will come out in the interview and I predict you will not get hired.

I predict that Mach 80's testicles will finally drop revealing that he has a pair, and he finally puts his foot down on a safety issue.

I also predict that I will be collecting a SWA paycheck.

BTW, I think I'll introduce myself as "Tanker Clown" at my interview just to spite you fools.

I was kidding about the connections , as I have a few of my own..... Good Luck!

Yeah, I love how everyone thinks that if you have a 737 type rating you:

1) paid for it yourself

and

2) want to work for SWA.

For those keeping score at home:

1) ATA paid for my 737 type rating

and

2) I don't want to work for SWA.
