Here's some grist for the mill and all you rumor mongers.

1. Chuckie Thibedeux was overheard telling Skip that the pilot union is at fault for the shortage of pilots at ASA(20 reserves for 416 lines, even my 4 year old knows that doesn't work, I guess ol drew didn't). He said that if the union hadn't been taking so long in negotiations that we wouldn't be short.(Still trying to understand that reasoning).
2. Big announcment on Tuesday or Wednesday. Your guess is as good as mine. I'll just wait and hear rather than speculate.

This I heard from two pilots that it's already happened to. The company has told scheduling to give "no shows" to any pilot that says they are unavailable when scheduling calls to draft them on their day off. If you answer the phone you are available. Doesn't matter where you are, 5 states away, out of the country, where ever. DO NOT ANSWER YOUR PHONE ON YOUR DAYS OFF. We are now responsible for fixing the companies staffing screwup. This comes from the top and the C.P.'s can't help you, but we all know they have no authority anymore.

Let's hear it.........

Greetings..

I know you said these were rumors, but it would not surprise me at all..I am reserve in SLC and was called yesterday(day off) to be drafted. Thank God I did not answer the phone..I cant believe they can "no show" us if they actually do get a hold of us. Anyway, interesting information.

Take care

Yep its happening... Guy I flew with was out of the country and schedualing drafted him for a trip that there was NO POSSIBLE WAY for him to get there to do it. Gave him a no show for it. The CP made it go away, but still a bunch of crap. Why did he answer his phone? Well it didn't show up as anything but "unknown".

Just a suggestion. Scheduling has been known to use their cell phones to call for a draft, so they don't show up as being from the GO. If you don't recognize the phone number, DON'T ANSWER it, period. And I completely believe that they are calling it a no show if they get hold of you, regardless of if you could go in. I was sick for 3 weeks in January and they tried to draft me on the days of the trips that I had called in sick for.

I have no doubt scheduling would give you a no-show, but I have a hard time believing they could make it stick. Say they happen to get a hold of one of their commuters. They even dial an "out of Georgia" area code. They can't possibly expect these people to be "available". Sounds to me like they are wasting valuable time and resources, but thats no surprise.

Question...for drafting/junior manning where in the contract is a time limit stated to be within range of domicile?

Answer...There isn't one unless you go by the reserve call out.

for example...[ring ring] Hello? Is this Captain Chuck U. Farley? Yes. Ha! You're drafted! We need you at the airport in 10 minutes. Uh, I live in Gwinnett and its rush hour. Oh, OK. No-Show!

They are making it stick. CRJ Capt buddy of mine was in Bermuda visiting family and they called him, no way for him to make it, and he has a no show that they are not taking off. I heard this comes from Chuckie himself, five occurances and you're fired, doesn't matter if you're sick or what. Grieve it to get your job back, but that process can take years. FMLA and Military are the only acceptable reasons. It's not the short notice trips anymore either, they are so short that it's 8 hours or more most times now so commuting, drinking, etc... won't get you out of it. Just don't answer your phone or don't acknowledge that it's you until you know who it is for sure.

See if this fits:

SLAVE

1. A man who is by law deprived of his liberty for life, and becomes the property of another.
2. A slave has no political rights, and generally has no civil rights. He can enter into no contract unless specially authorized by law; what he acquires generally, belongs to his master.

No, this Company does not own me during my time off.

I will not pick up open time during my days off.

I am so sick of Crew Scheduling acting with no human decency what so ever. No respect for our families. No respect for safety.

Let's hear it.........

The reason Chuckie finds himself short is due to the mass exodus of late. Pilots are jumping ship for UPS, FED EX, and Airtran. Add to that the DFW pilots who waited until the last day of operations in DFW to quit, and all of a sudden there are not enough crews.

I am not sure what Chuck makes, but shouldn't he have a slight bit of foresight and be able to realize that people will continue to leave as long as he makes our lives unbearable? Kind of Ironic that his actions with the pilot group now place him in a position with no quick fix. I hope SOMEBODY at Delta makes him answer for his actions.

As for the BIG ANNOUNCEMET, here is my guess. Delta will sell ASA and Comair, then we will turn around and buy Delta. Its all the rage these days!!!

Well, on the bright side, if you guys are bought by SkyWest, at least you'll be used to it.

amen to that bluto.. the only reason I haven't been called daily to "help the company in this time of staffing crisis" is a bunch of trip trades that put me in the high 90s for block... good luck guys.. pay issues are one thing.. messing with your family time is another!

Fins, the guy on that link just became my personal hero. Thanks for sharing. Awesome! (not exactly work-friendly though, unless you're a sailor...for anyone else who's interested)

"GO AROUND" Come on dude let's speculate. Thats what this board is all about right? Did you overhear something?

PC

Fins, I'm on a roa overnight and the computer is in the lobby. I'm laughing so hard the guest and employees are giving me a funny look. That guy rules!!!

Yup, it is true. As a matter of fact, everyone who is on reserve needs to call scheduling, and give them their newly aquired pager number (go out and buy one), and tell them all other numbers have been disconnected. Everyone else who is a line holder, either do the pager thing, or give them a second home phone number and have the phone company put a two ring on that line, so you know it's scheduling. But most important tell them your cell phone number has been disconnected or give them a bogus one. There is nothing in the contract requiring you to give them your cell phone number. Take back your life and personal time.
A further word of caution. Be VERY VERY careful when going to see a CP. Word has it CS has taken over managements side of the contract negotiations and MW is the new companys puppet <hint - hint>. I am surprised that CV and FL are still around and not back on line. Supposedly, all 'decision' issues now go through MW and his master CS, leaving the remaining chiefs even more stripped of whatever little remaining authority they had. Under the current conditions, it is beyond me why anyone would want to be a chief pilot at this company.
Fly safe ya'll and fly the contract!

SkyWest

Didn't SkyWest stop juniormanning a while ago? Did they start back up again? I could have sworn someone said that they can't any more.

Man that was the call we all WISH we could've had with crewsked...

SkyWest cannot involuntarily junior man anyone on a day off. Or at least they haven't been. Apparently they can do whatever they want without regard to the policy manual. Specifically, I was referring to a recent ongoing incident in which the company decided to assign CRJ-700 lines to people regardless of their bid preference. Oh, and they don't have to junior man you to assign you training on a day off. You see, both of those have been occuring since the company is understaffed.

Since we as line pilots are in charge of deciding how many people to hire, it is our responsibility to deal with the problem when we are understaffed. Oh, wait, I forgot, we don't have any say in the hiring numbers. Why is it our problem to fix again?

Amazing that MW went from being a Captains Rep to the company shill in such a short period of time. I remember him calling me into his office and asking me defend him to the other pilots and make sure everyone knew that he would be a staunch "pilot advocate". Makes me want to puke now.

What has MW done? The last time I went to him, he was very helpful and supportive.

We were sued for not picking up extra trips and we LOST. (during C2K negotiations) The GA courts will rule against you......

MW is still a very nice guy, and he will agree with you when you place an issue before him if you have a leg to stand on. He doesn't make the decisions though, and when we calls over to the GO he goes with whatever he is told. I realize that is his job, but after being a staunch pilot suporter for so long, it amazes me that he can just blindly accept the company line.

No Ted, they rode skidoos. Yankee talk for out on the snowmobiles (sleds) drinking.

wwwwaaaaahhhhooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

Interesting, the company is short of pilots, but they are trying to fire as many pilots as possible with their new drafting policy.

I wonder if they will retun to the days of someone standing in the parking lot drafting crews on their way to their cars?
