Does anyone know who/when NWA will be annoucing who it's new airlink partner is?

Mike is right.

They reserve the right to add one IF a carrier tanks and they need to make a rapid entry into a market. It would have to be a carrier who has jets and crews ready to go so the spool up time is quick if the program is activated.

But it is by no means a guaranteed thing for anyone.

This is part of dominating the gates the DTW to keep out JB.

I believe that either United or Us Airways have to be the ones that go down for the 3rd Airlink to happen, who it is....anybodys guess.

Mestaqua?

NWA has it in their contract that no more gates can be built at DTW, so if USAirways pulls out, and they put a link feeder in those gates, no one else can come into the airport and complere with NWA.

I'm guessing you mean other than the ones that are currently being added with the B and C expansion at the DTW World Gateway?

US Airways uses the old terminal not the new one. Only NWA, Mesaba, Pinnacle, Continental use the gates at the new terminal. Delta will be using the the new terminal soon.

yes it is, according the the station mgr.

There is no contractual provision for this. NWA can add a third Airlink at will. The above situation is urban legend that was spun up to make it look like NWA pilots weren't trashing ALPA's "brand scope."

Both Mesaba and PCL had LEC meetings that confirmed this and I believe Wychor put it out in email to everyone. Hard to believe every LEC member is either that misinformed or lying through their teeth, but considering this came from you DoinTime, it makes me curious, you're usually prety accurate with your posts. Additionally, I've read excerpts from the NWA contract and feel pretty comfortable with saying that yes, they can add another Airlink carrier whenever they want, but that Airlink carrier cannot fly jets over 44 seats.

From what I read, the NWA contract specifically limits any flying of turboprops over a certain size (I can't remember the seating capacity) and any RJ's over 44 seats to Mesaba and Pinnacle (original language said Express Airlines I) and then further limited the number of seats between 44 and 59 to how many narrowbody frames were online at any given time.

I was also under the impression that Scope was loosened in this last agreement, but only as follows: lifting the narrowbody relationship on 44-59 seaters - now the 'links can have as many as they want up to that 59 seat capacity, allowing a 3rd Airlink that can fly more than 44 seat jets IF the BR scenario as mentioned earlier evolves at a major.

If they did give up Scope and allow any Airlink at any time, then why haven't they jumped to pick up Mesa or Freedom flying the cheapest RJ's in the known world?

Spelling edit... :)

Does this mean that there is still no hope in sight for Mesaba to grow? Are they at least hiring for attrition yet?

The deal, which was approved by Northwest pilots a month ago, gives Northwest $265 million in labor concessions, which Northwest said it needed to compete in the grueling airline industry.

It also lets Northwest add 40 new 50-seat regional jets to its network -- but only if they're flown by a carrier other than current affiliates Mesaba Airlines (owned by MAIR Holdings Inc. of Minneapolis) or Pinnacle Airlines Corp. of Memphis.

I stand by my original statement.

.

Mel, it does seem odd. I'm thinking a few things here...

#1 -it's a press release snafu and it should read Pinnacle.
#2 - some quiet scope relief has happened which to me is scary, because what did they GET to give this up?
#3 - they're getting super ballsy and attempting to see if the NWA pilots overlok this
#4 - did it really say avro? dam!n I haven't seen a positive press release from NWA using the words avro in it in a LOOONG time.

If this is true... finally a new city!

I'm going to go out into left field with this one with a stab in the dark....

... Could it be Chicago Express?....

Hear me out, They have got an operating certificate that allows hubs in both MDW and IND (two areas NW would like to increase and eat at ATA) with unlimited flying possibilties throught the Midwest. They fly only the saab (which seems from the above posts to fit within the contracts). And they are actively up for sale.

Total stab in the dark, but stranger things could happen.

Cheers!

Anyone have the exact contract language that states all this? Are the quotes about adding RJs from an explanation of the language or the exact language?

I see it as going to be one of the USair regionals(CHQ/MSA/TSA) that will be left standing there with 40 or so jets doing nothing one day. To say it cant be SkyWest or XJT is crazy because crazy things happen. But they would not have 40 airplanes sitting around if they dont buy them now and just sit on them for a while. And thats not happening. It will be a while now that USair has more time, but maybe if they want IND realy bad and ATA goes out completly thing could change, but I would say not tell US is out of the game.
