Hopefully I got this right...

Just make sure if it affects you, you check out the new interpretation for the flight training rule.

I didn't read the foreign student part, but for citizens it changes it quite a bit.

Under 12,500: Only required to verify citizenship for training toward...
Initial Training (Private, Recreational, Sport, etc)
Instrument Rating
Multiengine Rating

Note you can now add on ratings (Commercial Single/Multi if they are both add ons, ATP, CFI-II-MEI, etc) without having to have each instructor verify you are a citizen.

It's on www.aopa.org if anyone wants to read the whole thing...

So basically it says, no need for fingerprinting etc. unless you are starting initial training, instrument rating or ME training. Question is, do you need to go through all this mess if your starting a CFI-I or MEI rating ??

I called AOPA and they said you would not need to go through this as this is not a new rating. CFI are not even considered pilot ratings. WHo knows ....

As for fingerprinting for the foreign students, I have no idea.

I kinda stopped after I read what concerned me (especially when I had to read it 5 times to understand it).

But no, you do not need to have your passport, birth certificate, or nationalization paperwork verified for a CFI, CFII, MEI training program.

*edit*
Also, once you are the CFI, you don't have to keep those records for 5 years. A simple logbook endorsement covers it. Thank God!

Here's a question, all the T-6 ride operators out there doing "flight instruction" for a 15, 30, or 60 min flight in order not to be considered a 135 operator or a sight seeing trip... will they have to fingerprint all their "students" even if they have no intention of doing anything other than an 'introductory flight'?

Just curious
