Through a grant from the Deaver foundation, we are able to offer scholarships covering the full training expenses for certificates from PPL to MEI certificate.(FREE TRAINING)
From what I know, it is a unique experience.
We are currently actively looking for applicants.
They should be between the ages of 18 to 26, from an underprivileged background too.( your W2 should not be higher than 150% than the poverty level)

Well I'm 25 yrs old, and as a flight instructor i'm just above the poverty level, too bad I already have my certs. Ahh well....

On the serious side, it sounds like the program's intentions have good merits, would have to wait and see how it pans out/if it could help someone in need better their lives. I guess my reply to this post is good for a bump.

That sounds like something that is well worth the cause. I applaud your entire organization and it's efforts. I think it is wonderful when someone can give a little back to those who are not as fortunate as you or I. I only wish more people would lend a helping hand when the opportunity presents itself. I have been working for a few years now on a "project" of my own.

I am in the last stages of starting up a flying foundation targeted at giving those younger underprivileged kids from broken and/or abused homes the chance to get involved in aviation. If I could bring a smile to some children even if it is only for a few hours a week then I am all for it. It has been a long and wonderful experience thus far thanks in part to quite a few larger corporations willing to donate whatever amount of money that is needed to make this goal of mine become a reality. The only remaining items are the legality issues which should not take much longer thanks in part to donated time/work from a few select attorneys that are involved in this project.

I think whenever you have a chance you make a positive impact on a group then by all means you should do so. I have been networking with selected school districts outside of those that I am tied in with that see troubled, abused, and neglected children and the feedback has been great so hopefully I will be able to expand on a larger scale at some point in the near future depending on time constraints and those willing to donate their time.

Once again, I wish you much luck and nice job on doing something for those who are less fortunate in a society where many take the simple things as the expected.

What I need is for someone to start a Comm/CFI scholarship for broke-ass old farts. They could call it the 'Starting and Stopping Training For Nine Years To Raise A Family Then Went Broke Thanks To 9/11 Endowment'. Any idea who to approach with this one? I'm thinking SWASS would be a good choice, since he owns his own twin turbine aircraft and is sitting on a stack of money.

Then there's my other two ideas ...

One ... trading drawings/paintings of pilots with their airplane, favorite rental, or company aircraft in Charcoal, Pastel, or Oils for flight time.

Or Two ... standing at the corner of High Point and Holden with the other bums holding a sign that says "Broke-ass Pilot ... Need $$$ for Commercial and CFI Ratings ... Will Also Work Part-time for Flight Time ... God/Allah/Jaweh/Krishna Bless You!"

On a (rare) serious note, I think what you guys are doing is quite admirable. If I am ever in a position to help someone financially as they struggle up the ladder I will certainly do so. After I finished my PPL in 2001, I NEVER flew alone again. I always kept a pair of foggles in my bag and I maintained a list of phone numbers for guys I knew who were also struggling for that magic 250TT. I enjoyed the company, got alot of hood time, and gave someone else a hand, without expectation of similar consideration. It came back around when I recently needed a BFR, but was so poor I couldn't window shop. My most frequent passenger/safety pilot back in 2001 is now a young CFI/II who graciously assisted with the ground instruction and did my BFR gratis.

What goes around ... comes around. Help someone else when you get a chance.
