I understand that America West may be starting their own classes that are separate from those at USAirways. Some questions .......

What would be the likely new hire base?
What would be the likely new hire equipment?
What equipment is at PHX? LAS?

Are new hires paid during initial training?
Are they provided transportation to training?
Are they provided single occupancy hotel rooms for training?

Any other thoughts?

Thanks so much for your help!!!!!

First of all, today marks the combining of operating certificates, so at least theoretically training can take place in either CLT or PHX. Right now CLT is running full steam while PHX is under-utilized. I wouldn't be surprised if at least indoc is in CLT but we'll have to see which sims are used.

What would be the likely new hire base? LAS

What would be the likely new hire equipment? Airbus, but 737 or 757 is certainly possible

What equipment is at PHX? All three LAS? Airbus

Are new hires paid during initial training? Is this a serious question?

Are they provided transportation to training?
Are they provided single occupancy hotel rooms for training?

You're on your own. Several hotels in PHX provide service to the training center. I commute and have never had a car in PHX.

Any other thoughts?

Yeah, if you get hired let us know the details.

If new Airways pilots are hired out "west", will they be subject to the AWA contract or the AAA contract?

The rumor I heard was at least 60 new hires are coming west. IF that happens, they will work under the west contract.

There are a lot of other rumors floating around regarding hiring - I've even heard that each side might conduct interviews separately....I'd probably throw the BS flag on that one, though.

If you're thinking about coming here, you should think long and hard about the current state of affairs. It could be years before the East/West issues are put to bed.

Lucky for you, that arbitrator Nicolau will be deciding this for you.

If you have a lot of C-150 time, he will probably determine you to be Captain material, and place you ahead of a 20 year US Captain.

New hire indoc has changed too. Word is that Doug takes you out bar hopping for 3 days on Mill Ave.

He'll drive!

Ignore this idiot. He's just one of many bitter "easties" who's P.O'ed at the world because the new senority list didn't go DOH like his MEC told him it would.

Twin palms gives a crew rate.

I wonder if the newhires will even have to pay for their stay. The east pays for your hotel. It is a pisser that you have to pay for your own hotel at a MAJOR airline.

What about the former AWA poolies who started training on the E190 for the "East" operation? Do you think they will be allowed to return to their original airline of interest (AWA)? Personally, I would be pi$$ed if I wanted to fly for AWA but instead was forced to the East on the 190 and then watched newbies take Airbus jobs at AWA after the fact... Anyone talk to any of those former AWA poolies? Probably not too pleased.

Has anyone else posted an app. online at usairways.com? If so does the site still say your app is in the inbox? I submitted my app about two weeks ago and it has not moved from the inbox. Thanks for any info.

AWA guys sold out their newhire/junior pilots with that contract item.

Of course the US guys have been selling out their junior guys for years.

Just another dsyfunctional family.

Sure, once operations are combined and their seat locks expire.

Yeah, but they'll be senior to those guys. There's lots of good reasons to be displeased in this business. Just know that the AWA poolies were originally flushed so it's a pleasant surprise they were ressurected.

Oooooo. Testy, testy.

If my post offended you, why don't you report me to your union.

Anyone have the telephone number to USAPA?

I wouldn't mess with a hotel. Get a room in a crashpad, save yourself a ton of money, and have more fun...

I don't think you'll see anyone hired to America West. You might see some of the new hires to US Airways placed on equipment in PHX or LAS. There is a big difference there. If you were placed out West, you'd operate under our CBA (the old AWA contract) because everyone out West operates under the old AWA CBA agreement until a new CBA is negotiated and the combined seniority list gets hammered out and implemented.

AWA doesn't exist anymore. The certificate was retired (or put on the shelf) and we are all (East and West) now on the US Airways certificate. AWA pilots are contract pilots under the AWA CBA flying on the US Airways certificate.

So, you'd be a new hire to US Airways, and then it would be up to HR, INDOC, “secret squirrel check” to see where you were placed. West would be a winner as a new hire because you'd make more while all this crap is hammered out, but I’d bet you don't know till day 1 of INDOC.

As far as the AWA poolies coming West, they have a new US Airways P# under the combined seniority list. They won't be able to "retro rights" to the West. They will only be able to move West if their seniority can hold it. A new hire who was domiciled in PHX or LAS would be protected at that domicile, IE not forced to move, but might be on Reserve a long time as East guys bid West vacancies as they develop. All that of course once we use the combined list. In the short term, a West domiciled US Airways new hire would be way better off financially and work rule wise.

Stay away from the Sleep Inn. My truck was broken into there and they didn't care. Know by PHX police as a high break in Lot. Letters to Corporate, etc, all fell on deaf ears. Jerks. Just my 2 cents on the issues.

Not testy at all. Just callin' it like I see it and somehow I think my assesment is spot-on.

Not sure what pickeball has to do with the USAir east guys. Maybe it's a new way to let their anger out.

Shows you what I know.

See, that's your mistake. You put in the wrong address...this is the right one. They meant the UNITED STATES AMATEUR POKER ASSOCIATION. Don't feel bad. It's a lot like Vegas, except instead of your money you gamble your future away.

Here, try it! http://www.usapa.net/

Gentleman, place your bets!

PS. Regardless of what a small faction of small, angry men say, this is a pretty damn good place to work. Perhaps they've forgotten what a REAL job is actually like.

12 days off a month min
4 reserve periods per day, 12 hour availability, 4am, 7am, 1pm, 4pm (morning reserve moves an hour fwd after Daylight Savings).
Long call possible but is kinda senior (12 hour call out).
77 hour guarantee

MJ -- are you saying that the West HR department called you and is bringing you to PHX for an interview with US Airways West? IE they are only looking at you to be added to the West side of the house?

Interview is in PHX. Don't know if it is for East or West ops, didn't ask. Doesn't matter to me since I have family near several Airways bases. What matters to me is how the future looks at Airways, lots going on there at the moment. I was surprised I got a call since I didn't apply, just gave them a resume at Air inc. job fair.
