When?

I just skimmed the news release and didn't see any time frame for implementation. I'm taking a check ride on Thurs for a type rating. Think I'll get the new one?

Talked to the FAA at Oshkosh this week..the deal is, if you have applied for a new rating or certificate (filled out any 8710) since June 1, have done a name change or requested a new number in place of your social secuirty number, you will be issued the new plastic certificate without having to do anything. If you want the new certificate but have no plans to do a checkride anytime soon, you can go to the FSDO and fill out a form to get the new certificate.

Yes...now I can mistakingly hand the hot waitress my pilots license and say...."Oh my gosh...I'm sorry, thats my pilots license...heres my Visa....sorry about that...I'm so dense sometimes. By the way...what time do you get off?"

Peter you fool! That never works!

Ummm....I mean, I've heard that never works!

Personally, I intentionally avoid mentioning being a pilot when picking up chicks. It does more harm then good!

Pick ups

I agree with bigD, any woman worth anyone's time or money would see right through such a hallow pick-up line. I have a friend who uses the "I'm a pilot" line on occasion, and I heard the girl reply, "Good for you."

I've been asked what I do and then I will tell her. But if her eyes light up in interest, I follow it with, "that just means I'm flat broke." If she laughs... then keep talking to her. If she turns her nose up... then she can just keep on walking.

Are there any pictures of the new licenses? I'm curious to see it.
The old license, can be laminated them and they will last forever. But my plastic bankcards and driver's license hardly scan anymore and the picture is faded beyond recognition.

I'm looking forward to seeing these. I think we all have to admit to being let down the day our first pilot certificate arrived in the mail after all that hard work and money, only to find the words: "Cut along dotted line."
