Hey folks,

I just got my new FAA certificate, anybody knows what the new magnetic stripe is for?

Cheers

So someone can steal your identity.

A free pass to frost your hair, ware your oakley's on your frosted dew, Ipod in hand jamming out to danger zone, while getting paid $18,000 a year. Oh ya to pick up chicks

You use it as a key to your jet and later you put it into the ATM machine to pay your Key Bank loans.

(Seriously the FAA has a little machine that they swipe the card thru and it confirms that the license is legit and it automatically shows that they ramp checked you or some madness like that)

I've never been ramp checked or observed by a guy carrying anything more than a spiral notepad. Have I ramped you before? Hold on lemme check. (flip flip) yup.

Mag Stripe

They swipe it when they take your butt off on a black helicopter to a "re-education" camp. They will "realign your perceptions" and give you shock therapy until you promise to vote for "Hitlery."

-Good Times!

Just curious.

What kind of "new certificate" do you get at 600 hours TT?

Getting your Commercial a little past (ok, more than a little past) the 250 hour TT?

I'm betting a SIC type rating.

This could be a good thing. Most Drivers License have a mag stripe and it brings up the most important info when swiped. A Pilots license cold do the same thing and possibly be a part of the new crewpass. You can encode enormous amounts of info nowadays. The FAA thinking ahead to future uses? Novel idea. I applaud them.

dude your giving them way too much credit. the FAA can't tell it's ass from a hole in the ground.

The strip contains your full name and your FTN number for the acra/iacra faa database login; not the password however.
