Delta Continues to Grow Summer Schedule in Atlanta

Passengers to enjoy increased access to Rocky Mountains this summer
ATLANTA, Feb. 23, 2006 – Beginning this summer, Delta Air Lines’ customers will be able to take advantage of new non-stop service between Delta’s largest hub in Atlanta and Calgary, Alberta, Canada and Bozeman, Montana.
“Delta is responding to strong passenger demand for convenient service to one of Canada’s largest business and leisure markets. In addition, we are building on the success of our winter service to Bozeman by offering twice-weekly summer service to one of the fastest growing leisure destinations in the country,” said Bob Cortelyou, Delta’s vice president of Network Planning. “These two new destinations will benefit from the extensive connecting opportunities offered by Delta’s Atlanta hub, including convenient connections to Latin America and Europe.”
Effective June 8, Delta will offer customers round-trip flights between Atlanta and Calgary four times weekly, and round-trip flights between Atlanta and Bozeman twice weekly. Both markets will be served with Delta’s Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Delta already serves customers in Calgary and Bozeman through its hub in Salt Lake City.

Chavez just kicked 'em down a couple of flights in Venezuela !!! So it's win a few lose a few! Like your avatar.

Yeah, we may lose Caracas for awhile, but we will most likely place that 738 somewhere else, like Calgary and Bozeman. I just read that we also are cutting 13 daily Song flights from the East Coast, probably placing them (the 757s with the PTVs) on more transcon flights (over 1700 NM). The 5-6 hour flights on transcons could have produced 2 flights each (2-3 hour flights) up and down the East Coast. We'll see if Delta route planners have the big picture or not.

Delta Air to cut flights, JetBlue shares up
Friday February 24, 3:41 pm ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Bankrupt Delta Air Lines (Other OTC:DALRQ.PK - News) plans to slash flights on many routes where its Song unit competes with JetBlue Airways Corp. (NasdaqNM:JBLU - News), news that boosted JetBlue shares by over 6 percent on Friday.

The reduced competition on routes between New York City and Florida is likely to mean higher fares for summer travel and higher revenue for JetBlue, which recently posted its first quarterly loss since 2002.

Delta, which filed for bankruptcy protection in September, announced the following month that it planned to fold Song in May, about three years after it began flying. But it had kept rivals guessing about what that would mean for capacity.

The No. 3 U.S. airline did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment on the flight cutbacks, which were first divulged by a Wall Street analyst and confirmed by a JetBlue executive.

JetBlue has made little secret of its struggle to raise ticket prices amid stiff competition from Song and from Continental Airlines Inc. (NYSE:CAL - News), which has also added seats between the New York area and Florida.

The Delta capacity cuts, effective this summer, are of about 13 flights a day, or 25 percent, according to brokerage JP Morgan, which raised its rating on JetBlue shares to "neutral" from "underweight."

JetBlue, which has forecasted a loss for 2006, said the move would give it a boost.

"It's always good to see some rationality taking place," said David Ulmer, vice president of route and schedule planning. "This is certainly less capacity than we would have been assuming, though about what we hoped for."

In addition to the Florida reductions, Delta is slightly reducing flights to Los Angeles and Seattle, he said.

Ulmer said he agreed with JP Morgan analyst Jamie Baker that the Delta change could mean more revenue than forecast starting in May and a full-year profit instead of a loss for JetBlue.

JetBlue shares were up 69 cents, or 6.3 percent, at $11.78 -- a three-week high -- in late afternoon Nasdaq trading.
