I'm not asking for a big debate, but I disagree.
Where are you going to find low budget passengers for your low cost airline?
Macy's or at the McDonald's that is built into the Super Walmart?

(I'm not saying AT's campaign had class but it reached the right market group for sure)

The people (looking for cheap tickets) watching TV during the DAL commercial are yelling at the wife and kids to bring em another beer. They don't give a rats A$$ about how sophisticated the airline just got........ They just want to get from point a to b for as few $ as they can. Safety, pleasant FA's , interior, everything else comes second to most people. Oh sure they will be first to sound off If they are not treated like the CEO of their trailer park, but you kind of expect that from someone one there way to "star" on the Jerry Springer show. :puke:

Are you kidding? Airtran's Supper Value Meal Ad campaign was a flop! They pulled thge plug on it!

The problem with your theory is that this new Delta commercial is aq campaign. I dont thinkthis is a campaign, just a "were back, and we will be working to make you a Delta customer" Delta has not advertised for years and years. We are just getting started again!

aCarpe,

I used to work in and around the advertising world and marketing and I can tell you that this is part of a larger effort that one would call a campaign.

This is the holiest of holies for the marketers...the coveted "REBRAND". More often than not it gets screwed away worse than Napoleon's invasion of Russia. However, in any serious and well strategized rebrand...there has to be a first move, the initial 'call to action'....in this case w/ Deta it is much more a 'call to notice'. This is a play for mindshare, IE-how many people know about us and what exactly do they know?

I'm sure the senior strategist sat down w/ Whitehurst and other senior managers and laid out a plan that said something like, "we will not hide from the challenges we faced in the past"....that is why you see the agency that did this creative placed the "apocalyptic airport" scenes in the front...and then it rolls into what will most assuredly seem velveeta cheesy music in five years and the jumpcut edited NEW DELTA segment.

The campaign, as I have seen it is titled "CHANGE"...if you look at the print ads, this is what the targeted customer pieces of the campaign have as their primary messaging.

....and i just completely lost my train of thought.

Now if you will excuse me I need to get back to memorizing 37-200 memory items and limitations for Monday.

Oh, and not only did they pull the plug on it....

It was so poorly conceived of and executed that they were required to take a huge writedown of many multiple millions: the number escapes me right now, but I could have sworn it was in the hundred million range.

The new Delta is a fleet of CRJs and Dash 8s. That's Delta's new growth model ie JFK and LAX. What kind of experience for the average Delta customer? I think you can answer that one. I don't think Delta's new commercial even had any customers in it. Just a FA standing on a table getting her new digs (is that how they fit your uniforms?) Repainting and adding new TVs and seats don't make an airline more viable. Good example would be SONG. Best of luck and hope Delta can turn their ship around.

The delta customers would really be impressed with the amount of experience those Mesa crew members have in the dash service out of JFK!

I think this commercial was about showing the changes that have gone on at Delta. It makes sense that this particular commercial does not show the passenger!

I love women.

Are you dumb enough to believe that new paint and uniforms are the only changes Delta has made? Maybe just uneducated on all the changes. Take the time and read about it! This ad campaign looks quite a bit better than the "Order a large fries or a $1.00 chili and get an airtran ticket!" Now that was dumb!

Hmmm....Check out Motley Fool's article on the Customer Satisfaction survey for airlines? Looks like Delta didn't do so well. Worse than even....drumrolll........USAIRWAYS...ouch that's bad. We're actively trying to avoid doing a good job at LCC and Delta still fared worse. Not sure if a commercial is going to fix that.

Actually we are getting rid of the Dash 8s by August of this year, and we are dumping a lot of the 50 seat RJs, while getting some newer 76 seat CR9s with first class. That is a lot better than the past. JFK will be gaining many new INTL cities, and we have added many new mainline services too, like Punta Cana, Portland, Phoenix, Santiago (Dom Rep), Santo Domingo, St Thomas, Denver, Pisa (Italy), Bucharest, Accra, etc. LAX is adding RJs temporarily so we can keep the terminal we are in (Alaska wants it because of the better customs area---so we will fill the gates until we get more mainline planes). You really don't know what is going on here at DL.

Bye Bye--General Lee

Your current employee strife should shoot you guys to the bottom this Summer. Sounds fun in PHX and PHL!

I hope you're right! It's kind of frustrating when you are 'actively working without enthusiasm' and still can't make last place...lol... I do think Tempe is starting to take notice though. Maybe it's not the jetstream/weather...?

The general is the only one allowed to make fun of other airlines, NO ONE is allowed to point out any thing wrong, perceived or otherwise at Delta, or he will be all up in your hizzy. His sky is a different color than the rest of ours.

You're right. I think our management is actively scouring the country now to find an RJ operator that not flying DL passengers. Are there any? I don't think it's a coincidence that the only consistently profitable airline, and the one who finishes at or near the top of all customer rankings, does not outsource their flying. The guys and girls flying small jets do a great job but I've always believed all company flying should be brought in house. It's the only way to provide a consistent product.

rose colored glasses? too bad...

Oh well - that's his tough sh*t then!! My hizzy hisses back. lol Most of the airlines suck now, can't think of one that doesn't (like that's news to anyone) - that's what this board is for, to vent our frustrations.

My ex b/f was at DAL for quite a few years and finally quit recently. He couldn't take the cuts, mis-mgt. and lame excuses anymore. I guess the shareholders are all flying corp. - otherwise, not sure they would be able to stand their own service!
