Gents,

I grew up in a town close to Hazleton, PA where a new cargo airport has just been given the grren light to build. Here is the website with animation; it looks like it will be impressive. http://www.gladstonepartners-lp.com/airport/main.shtml

Five more years of military life then maybe I will be able to go home to my back-yard and get a job. Has anyone heard any related news on this airport?

I read about this proposal a while back. This was prior to DHL announcing it's regional center in ABE, so I was wondering if DHL might be considering it. I'm wondering if Purple will leave it's substantial investment in EWR, and if Brown will do the same in PHL. I would think that the key for all considering this facility is the drive time from this new sort to the NY/NJ metro area.

What is the time line for completion?

What is a "Cargo Airport?"

What is a "Cargo Airport?"

I have heard the term before when I worked in ATL. There were talks that they would open a cargo airport to pull that traffic out of KATL. As you can see, it never happened and that was over 10 years ago.

Cargo airport means: Wx is always at or above mins; breaking is fair or better; and every one is CAT 3 qualified.

Buckeye, I love the that YouTube clip. I gotta figure a way to apply that for my Scarlet Knights.
Problem for me is which state? FL?:smash: CT?:smash: NY?:smash:

There used to be airline service in there years ago, Pocono Airlines. In fact the prototype of the Piper Pocono fuselage is sitting out back of one of the hangars. There is also a Cassutt (raced at Wildwood, NJ back in the day) sitting under a pile of scrap.

Hazelton may be a good location for a cargo hub - drive/fly over thru that region and see many large shipping freight fwding wearhouses.

Is there enough room on that ridge to expand the airport/runway? Plus wx is a bitch up on that ridge all winter - ask any of us that have flown AVP on a regular basis.

I think this "gladstone" guy it that rich guy that has the huge pvt. hangar at the WNW end of the field. Several years ago he had his own blimp in there. I believe he got his $$$ from his family that had the coal mine(s) plus the old mil arsenal/tank testing place somewhere out by Mifflinville.

Back in my 135 days I flew a bunch of lawyers in there on a hellish windy day in a Navajo. One of them ate a strawberry frosting covered doughnut from the catering tray. I remember it was strawberry because his projectile pink puke was all over the cabin. My FO was pissed.

If they build it will they let the crazy skydive people stay?
