Gents,

I grew up in a town close to Hazleton, PA where a new cargo airport has just been given the grren light to build. Here is the website with animation; it looks like it will be impressive. http://www.gladstonepartners-lp.com/airport/main.shtml

Five more years of military life then maybe I will be able to go home to my back-yard and get a job. Has anyone heard any related news on this airport?

I read about this proposal a while back. This was prior to DHL announcing it's regional center in ABE, so I was wondering if DHL might be considering it. I'm wondering if Purple will leave it's substantial investment in EWE, and if Brown will do the same in PHL. Yellow has already demonstrated that they could piss away a brand new $235Mil state of the art sort so all bets are off there. I would think that the key for all considering this facility is the drive time from this new sort to the NY/NJ metro area for AM delivery times.

What is the time line for completion?

Don't too excited brother. Alliance Airport (KAFW) was developed as an "all cargo" airport and still took many years to land FedEx (and that's with ol' Ross Perot twisting arms and pulling strings) and they still have not landed another cargo carrier. I really don't see this happening inside of 10 to 12 years at best.

There is a newly abandoned airport with 4 long runways in Pennsylvania which is also the nation's 4th largest in land area.

I find it moronic that PA officials would push for a new airport and 13,000' runway while PIT remains empty.

Like this new proposal, PIT is within a same-day drive to the east coast metro areas, but unlike this proposal, PIT is also within same day range to the midwest.

Yikes...sounds like I will be looking for a job with Southwest instead of cargo in my backyard. With five years until I can retire from the military, the whole industry will probably have changed!
