The 777 is pure sex, but compare the Boeing to the euro-trash-hauler:

(See new comparison below)

I don't see the A380 being blown out of the water - except on looks

Obviously the euro-whale is still going to be larger, but it would be nice to use the numbers for the announced 77-2F instead of comparing a freighter to a passenger aircraft.

Besides even when the friggin tail
falls off an airbusted somehow it is
"pilot error".

I'm sure that someone is designing the
extra-tall container handling stuff right
now for the 380...

How about specific fuel consumption over
a 6000nm leg per ton of cargo?

Now this is a SEXY plane. That new 380 looks like a big pile of poo compared to this.

Yeah, except as of two weeks ago Boeing had only five orders for it... Who knows, with a little luck maybe it'll pick up.

The one in my Avatar blows 'em all away!

Flys faster!
Hauls More!
Hey she even burns more fuel!

Yeah, you're pretty cool..............Dork

What confuses me is that... Why are people comparing the 2 aircraft. They are designed for completely different missions. The 777LR is going to be for UltraLong haul in the 250-300 pax area... The A380 is going to be able to carry obviously many more people but the range wont be as good and the airports that it can serve are more limited..

There is a market for both aircraft--- This includes the 787 as well.

Thats like saying a new Ford Excursion is going to hurt sales of an BMW 5 series.

People just see "new airplane" and want to compete and compare and it just doesnt work.

That was my initial thought on seeing this thread. The proper comparison is the 777-200LR versus the A340-500 or the A380 versus the 747-400. While we're on the subject; the other comparisons are 777-300ER versus A340-600 and 787 versus A350.

The 777-200LR does not have many orders yet, but it is the platform the the 777 freighter variant and that will get a fair number of orders rolling in this year and next. You are likely to see both Emirates and Singapore order the 777-200LR as the A340-500 has proven to be a big piece of $hit.
