Nevis here we come

Any advice on going to Nevis.....Taking a Falcon 900EX there...I know it a short runway!!!!

Took some people there once. Instead of going to nevis we went to St. Kitts and the pax took the ferry to Nevis. Pretty easy deal for the pax. Don't know what the airport is like at nevis but we opted for st. kitts, good facility, more hotel choices. I don't know if there are any affordable hotels in nevis.

I go to Nevis alot. We stay at the Nisbet Plantation. It is the absolute best place to eat, if not the best place I've ever eaten at. If you go there talk with Patterson, he's the concierge. Super nice guy.

The 900ex is no problem into Nevis I'm sure. Hug the small mountain on the approach. A lot of people come in at an angle to avoid that hill but I've found it easier to stay close to it to make the final approach not so dramatic. PM me for any more details or pictures of the approach that I have taken.

I assume your landing in St. Kitts? Runway's not that short. Note the very high terrain north and south of the field. Unless it's CAVU fly the approach via the SKB (or other appropriate) transition. It takes you southwest and back to the field (there's a big hill to the southwest too). SKB crossing is 5000 for good reason. If you're in good VFR then you might head for a 5 or 6 mile final with the island on your left. The 900 map display helps here. The field is a bit hard to pick out and has a slight upslope which appears more pronounced than it is. No taxi ways (per Caribbean standard). No need to call Piarco as you cross the boundry inbound from SJU center at about 6K, but they expect a 10 minute call. Outbound, if you're heading to the Amber routes and the States, they hand you off to STM approach, then SJU center. There is a real danger in this theater of taking the visual into a place which is new to you. My advise first trip in is, let the F/O fly, fly the full "via", brief the sector/route and segment altitudes. Grab the spf 45, golf clubs, boss's credit card and have a ball.

I was lucky to go there once...always went into St Kitts. Took an islander over there once and stayed for a weekend. I myself woiuldnt go in to Nevis in my Falcon - but Im kind of a Pu$$y (or just lazy)...

Stayed at the Four Seasons - spectacular!! have fun!!!

If you spend any time on St Kitts. do a good island tour. see the monkeys on the North (?) end. some old sugar mills, etc...

its one of the few Islands I can actually stand to go to anymore. Clean and friendly....think 100% opposite of the Bahamas or Jamaica.

There are some great places in the Bahamas, which stretch for over 500 miles, but you can't get to most of the good ones in a jet . . . . which is probably why they are still great places to go!

The Exumas are where it's at . . . . . . Cutlass Bay on Cat Island; Stella Maris on Long Island; Pittstown Point on Crooked Island, or Staniel Cay would be some quick suggestions.

I'm willing to bet that even a Fancy-pants Falcon Fondler such as yourself would have a good time at any one of the above . Oh, yeah, maybe Peace and Plenty on Georgetown, mon.

went to Staniel Cay years ago!...and yes it was much nicer than the normal $hithole I consider the bahamas to be....I would go back. I also have had a decent personal trips to Curacao and Antigua. Had total nightmares to Jamaica, Aruba, St Thomas etc....

Admittingly, most of my experiences in the islands are from flying trips there...Im just a po' corporate schmuck - cant afford to island vacation much on my own anymore....

About as far South as the family likes to "island vacation" these days is Nantucket...yuk.

You can't land at Nevis at night without a checkout from the local aviation authority. I found that out the hard way. I asked Jeppesen to provide me with *all* the information on the airport but all they had was text info, which didn't include this tidbit. I had planned to land during the day, but late passengers, etc. Bradley sent us to St. Kitts but the boss wasn't really upset.

We went by the airport and it seems to have an upslope to the center and then a downslope. So you might think you have no runway left.

We stayed at the Oaulie Beach Resort which was nice. People are friendly. Sunshines has good food.

Yeah and there is no weather reporting either on Nevis. Did anyone see the crashed learjet in Nevis?? I've got some pictures of it. They hit the fence at the end of the runway and the airplane hit the runway so hard the left engine came nearly off its mount! OUCH. To boot, it was a med flight to pick someone up. I hear the guys were out of florida??

If I had a choice, I would elect to go to St. Kitts and take the slow boat over but, we make it in there fine.

Definately a beautiful place to go. People were very friendly and typical laid back island. Great snorkeling in the bay up by the little hill on final. St. Kitts is an easy ferry like everyone says also.

I've tossed a mullet there on that beach with Kenny "The Snake" Stabler. Love the Place. It's the inspiration for Jimmy Buffett's Bama Breeze.
