Hello,

I would like to know how long the down time is between training and IOE? I have heard all kinds of times from a month to 3 or more. I started there last Monday and the company is not real clear on knowing any info and they seem to all say it just depends. Has anyone out there who has actually had some time off between? Are they still running behind or are they caught up? I am on the Citation X. Thanks for any info!!

Get ready for a nice little paid vacation. I finished the simulator course on the X in mid June, and I just finished company aircraft training last week. I haven't started IOE yet, and I have no idea when I will start. The X is really backed up, to say the least. Good luck.

Very true, however the wait between aircraft training and IOE is very short lived in the X. It was only 6 days for me man. Get ready the vacation is almost over....

The reason that you can't get a clear answer is beacuse of the transition away from aircraft training and into the STEP training. They are changing because of the down time (currency issues) pilots have experienced going back to airplane training. If you are new in the X, I would say you might be one of the first one's to go through the STEP training at FSI taught by a NJA instructor. Yes this means you probabaly won't get a 11 week break like most of us had. I still think you will get a few weeks off to recoup.

Yes you have to be at your domicile. If you are through with aircraft training and are ready for IOE then you will have a schedule, either 7/7 or reserve. You will get a brief everyday that you are scheduled to work. If you live close to the domicile then you will probaly ge a show from home if they dont have an ioe capt. If you dont live close to your domicile then you will get a hotel every night you are there and probaly show at hotel they entire week if you dont fly.
 
I'm interested to hear how the pilots like the new training programs. What they think of STEP? Lots of work was done by the UTC. They're about finished designing the programs and it will be up to the company to implement the committee's work. If you're satisfied with the product (the part NJ and the UTC worked on) pleased take the time to let the UTC know. Feedback is important to let those making improvements know they're on the right track, and it's motivational to the volunteers (and their families...;) ) who give up their free time to work on projects that benefit the entire group. It's positive reinforcement to be told that the hard work and sacrifice was worth it. NJW
 
I used to say enjoy the vacation..... Guess what I still say enjoy the vacation. Yeah STEP is a program but thats not where the snafu lies. The aircraft training might delay it by a week or two but thats about it.

Enjoy the time off but come to IOE knowing your stuff. A vacation is nice but NJ is still sending you a paycheck. When you show up for IOE your first couple of hours will be reviewing the plane, walkaround stuff like that. The first couple of legs will just be in the right seat and getting the hang of things. After that it will be a live leg to see how we operate and then its IOE for the rest of the tour.

For pilots that don't live at their domicile you still need to be there. This could get quite expensive for you. So you might call them up to beg them to go out. If you live by the domicile enjoy the time off.

How close is close enough? A several-hour drive? That is, do you get your brief the night before, giving you time to get in position at your domicile? And how close must home be to be given "show from home?"
