Netjets TEB/DAL domiciles?

I posted this in another thread. I appreciate all the comments. Anyone else have any insights?

Is the TEB domicile full?

I just got a "domicile declaration form" that said that NJ was only hiring into PBI, LAX, CMH.

thanks

How far along in the hiring process are you? Have you already interviewed?

I am one of the "re-sim" guys. Did well on the interview but stunk up the sim back in October. I get my second shot at it in two weeks.

mflyer2, have you committed to an aircraft yet? Or do you still have a choice?
It's possible certain domiciles have more pilots flying a particular aircraft so they are trying to even the distribution out.

I'm wondering if there are many pilots out there that won't apply to or decided not to fly at NJA because of the limited domiciles?

Does the contract have any language about transferring to a different domicile? I looked, but couldn't find it.

No, you must use and continue to use the Domicile the Company assigned you at hiring. The only way out is to be able to bid a Home Base Airport, or, the Company decides to close your Domicile for the purpose of a Domicile.

Check the crewops site for the HBA/Domicle change form. Nothing about how it is used and nothing about bidding this change. It almost looks like you just fill out the form which includes the date you will be changeing Domicle. It is not even called a request form.

Pilots on the seniority list ON DATE OF RATIFICATION can change Domiciles and/or HBAs at will. The Company will even pay moving expenses to change from an HBA to a Domicile. Contract makes it clear that NEW HIRES do not get this chance, not until they become part of the 30% in HBAs, or their assigned Domicile closes. The other thing is that the 30% "limit" on HBA use is not set in stone, that is the minimum the Company has to allow (not counting grandfathered pilots), the Company can decide to allow 50%, or 100% at HBAs and this would change the rules a bit, but don't hold your breath!

This form was just posted today and can be found from "my page" and click the link "HBA (Home Based Airports)".

so you're the one pilot going on crewops

Section 13.2(b)(i) of the new contract

First sentance:

"All crewmembers hired AFTER RATIFICATION of this agreement shall report to a DOMICILE (or satellite airport when applicable) as directed BY THE COMPANY, until such time as the crewmember is eligible to use a Home Base Airport."

This is pretty clear and is fully the intent. I would hate to see someone come here thinking that they can change Domiciles anytime they want, YOU CAN'T!! The Company must inform you "no later than the official offer of employment which DOMICILE the Company will REQUIRE each new hire to report for duty".

The forms on crew ops are useable only by those existing pilots at the date of ratification of the agreement who have lifetime grandfather rights to use the HBA or Domicile system at will, at any time. Such 2100 plus pilots have the right to move in and out of Domiciles, Domicile to Domicile, HBA to Domicile, etc., NEW HIRES DO NOT! Pretty sure I am right on this, will check the bargaining notes!!!;)

I have heard that they are, but only a few are available to be picked from, a couple are not being offered. Don't know if this is specific to type aircraft or all encompassing, question to ask before running to an interview!

PBI will be the next to fill up. There are a bunch of ex-Indy Air pilots moving down there. It will be interesting when only CMH and LAX are open for new hires!

It looks like Baja and me are the only ones that actually want to be domiciled in LAX, since we already live in SoCal.

If NetJets actually limits its choices to CMH and LAX, I think the number of qualified applicants will dwindle significantly. Unless you're from Ohio, or already own a crib out here in SoCal, I can't see many folks volunteering to move to a commutable distance from either.

Still waiting for an interview...........

CMH would be a hard sell for my wife, and LAX is absolutely out of the question. I'll be really disappointed if PBI closes this early in the whole "domicile" system, as it's the only base that I actually want to live in.

I grew up in CMH and lived/worked in PBI for about a year and am now living in the CMH area.

I'd prefer CMH. Work out of OSU/TZR/CMH.

COL in PBI is through the roof A "modest" 1 BR 850sq. ft. apt cost around $1200/month when all things were considered (Rent, Electricity, water, cable etc etc.) Gas prices are high, traffic is a beyotch. I hate I-95. A significant amount of "Cops" episodes came from Palm Beach County, Riveria Beach and the like.

The snorkeling in Columbus isn't as good as Palm Beach. The bikini's aren't either. There's enough to do around Columbus you won't be bored and it won't cost you an arm and a leg to live here. It's EASY to get around in Columbus with the way the freeways are set up.

If I was qualified for the job I'd apply. 1500hrs doesn't cut it. Know a couple of X Captains and an X ACP...very nice guys.

Isn't the PBI area just as expensive as Socal?

I think you can drive a 2 or 3 hours away from PBI and find something resonable in Orlando, FLL, Daytona, or out in the swamp west of town. LAX on the other hand, if you drove 2 or 3 hours you would still be sitting in traffic near LAX. Just looking at SoCal from the air compared to South Florida is no comparison, Urban Sprawl seems much more serious in California in my opinion.

PBI is expensive. I'm recently hired; got PBI and commute. I'll tell you two things...Netjets doesn't help you out with commuting at all and they want you at your domicile. They spent an extra 600 bucks buying me a commercial ticket to FLL with a rental car to PBI rather than let me commercial to my home which was much closer. Now that I'm based in PBI, often I get commercialled elsewhere to start my trips.

If you want to live in PBI and can afford it; you're in there. If not, life will not be easy.

Add to that the threat of hurricanes every summer. Can you even buy hurricane insurance any more?

Yeah, but I'd rather live in the hurricane's path than in Compton, CA. LA is definitely not a cheap place to live. What are the call-out times for NJA pilots on a reserve schedule? How far away from LA could you realistically live and still be responsive when called given the terrible traffic situation? You would end up renting an apartment in El Segundo or Hawthorne for the rest of your life...
