Big discussion on another website. It is unconfirmed - I'm just relaying what I read on the other forum.

No details about timing if it happens. I assume the Beechjets would be swapped out as the Phenom 300s arrive. Hopefully the Beechjet pilots will enjoy Phenom school and enjoy the boost in performance! Can we assume the Encores will be sent out to pasture next? Probably some older XLs could find some new homes as well.

Is this good or bad for those who have been furloughed?

Neither. Current deliveries are purely fleet renewal and not growth.

Furloughs will return when attrition and rising flight hour demand combine to require recalls. And that will be a little while longer...

Stronger economy equals NJA growth. Not looking so good with the current occupants of Pennsylvania Ave.

The plan has been to cut down on the number of fleets, with the Phenom being the new small cabin airplane. New owners are good for furloughees, owners leaving are not. Fleet changes don't make much of a difference.

Ultimately, any Beechjet losses are probably being replaced by the 300 which is faster, carries more, goes farther and uses less fuel...until the runway is wet...then you're f'd.

Don't forget - it's also the "Signature Series" Phenom 300.... I can't wait to see pictures of the end product (nicer seats, new Garmin 3000 Prodigy, etc.). I am thinking it would be a nice upgrade for any Beechjet pilot in terms of capability.

That said, I think I recently heard a Flight Options Phenom 300 on clearance flying from the Northeast to Santa Fe or somewhere in Colorado - that's a long time in a tightish cockpit. I get sore after 2 hours in my junky ERJ! Maybe shorter flights and less capability are better???? :laugh:

In the 300 the control column doesn't come up through the floor, so you have some room to move your feet...but the 4+ hour legs do get old.

Correct. Watching the market and reading AIN and other industry publications, it appears any return to growth, meaning just attempting to get back towards pre recession levels, is many many years away if not ever.

Attrition is just not happening either. Very few are retiring at any fractional and it is speculation that there are NJ pilots sitting home (non furloughed) that can be brought out to cover a position if needed. Given the slow overall private jet market, and how AIN discusses little growth and stagnation of flight hours, possibly no recalls until 2016ish at NJ. That again is based on attrition and not growth. Unless in the case of death or a terrible contract, I don't see PICs leaving for other jobs or retiring ever. And for the furloughed guys, who would come back as a SIC in a private jet with absolutely no hopes of ever upgrading.

Of course nobody is retiring. We have a lot of greedy people here with no life outside of aviation. These dinosaurs will keep going until they medical out.. 72-74 is the target retiring age for some of these people

This 69 year old captain I know said he "should be able to hold the Global by late 2014". Good luck to whomever gets him as a sim-partner. The global is a difficult type

WTF? Why do you get to be the arbiter of who should retire and why? You don't know. These old guys might have 5 wives and alimony payments out the tail pipe. They might not be greedy, they might have greedy ex wives. Even if they are greedy, so what? Not your place to tell them what to do.

Thank God for the age 65 rule in the airlines. ;
