Really? Hmmm, I have a house payment, car payment, school loans, and a few mouths to feed in a rather expensive area of the US. While making UNDER 100K flying a midsize cabin class aircraft, after all the bills are paid and money in the 401K, I still have $$ to go out and enjoy life.

My method? Living within my means!

Sure I would love to be paid more and work less, wouldn't we all.

Have you considered moving? Where I live $100k will support 10 acres with a 4000 sq. ft. home (and a 30 foot fishing boat!) with lots left over.

I think it is safe to say that Southern California cost of living is quite expensive. But if you are smart, you can have a nice home in a safe neighborhood with good schools making under 100K.

Like I stated earlier, it is called living within my means. Sounds like you need a reality check. I bet you would expect to have a beachfront home living out here and NJA pay for it!!

As for your 7 year NJA friend calling fellow pilots brats, maybe he should get a reality check.. It's OK for Major airline pilots to get 18 days off a month and pull in a buck and a half a year as Captain.. According to you they are way overpaid.. Dont talk to me about reality, my reality is that I dont even need to fly.. I am 31 years old and could retire tomorrow from what Ive made in the stockmarket!! It's about self-worth!!! MAybe you should get some!!

31 years old and you can retired on what you made in the stock market? Which stock market/mutual fund planet do you come from; because unless you bought UUNET @ 24 and sold before Worldcom went bust, then you must be from URANUS. If I could retired at 48, I would not have to wake up most mornings @ 0-dark-30 to go to work and usually getting home after dark.

Reality check: Except for maybe two airlines, the rest have been operating in the RED for years. Furloughs, wage concessions, benefit reductions, base closures and acres and acres of aircraft baking in the Arizona sun is where your comparison to the "buck and a half" airline pilot should be focused.

Sonny, you were still pooping in your diapers when I did my first check ride. It's the combinition of high fuel prices and labor unions that are the main catalysts for backruptcy in the airline industry today. The airline unions seem to forget who signs the pay checks. Nothing you can do about fuel prices.

Self-worth? Just what to expect from a Gen-Xer. It's all about you isn't it? That constitutes the definition of BRAT (ne poseur)! Self worth goes far beyond that what is monetary. I do not need a union to negotiate for me. I can do that on my own.

Don't mean to hijack the thread about netjets, but I don't think that the person who posted about flying a global and making 200,000 dollars a yr. is the kind of exposure that a company like Home Depot wants their pilots to be giving? Could be wrong but if one of my pilots posted that there would be a closed door meeting!

Whats really insulting about that whole article in Propilot Mag is how clueless some pilots are when it comes to benefits.

One guy from Airnet claims his Company doesn't offer Loss of Medical Insurance Coverage. Well Justin, there is this thing called COBRA and it is has been around for about 20 years and is mandated by the Federal Government. I would think everyone and their brother would know about COBRA. It is pretty common knowledge.

Another pilot states that he wishes his company would offer (in order of importance) Dental, Short Term Disability and Long Term Disability. Having Dental insurance doesn't mean squat if you can't pay the bills becuase you are on you back trying to recoup from an injury. Try reversing that list around and you might make some sense.

I know all about COBRA and can not figure out what it has to do with losing your medical? I guess if lose my job due to losing my medical then COBRA would allow me to continue my medical insurance, but it would not help recover any of my lost income due to losing my medical. Confused.....?>
