NIGHT and ACTUAL are recognized by the FAA as both falling under CONDITIONS OF FLIGHT and may be recorded by both pilots.

You need only log the flight time required for certification or currency. Nothing else. Of course most log every minute as time builders. When you do log your time, you are required to state among other things, the conditons of the flight (i.e., night or actual).

The plane isn't legal to operate unless there are two crew members who are both required to operate the aircraft.

Don't be confused by the approach and landing criteria. Only the person executing the approach (PIC or SIC performing PF duties) may log the approach and landing.
