For those who have filled this in, how did you handle "Dual time should not be duplicated in PIC or other columns"? (there is only one other thread on this and it isn't helpful)

Did you subtract that dual from you PIC time and place it in the "Dual Received" column? That would suck beacuse that is hundreds of hours lost from PIC when it really was PIC time.

Also, if you had SIM time and logged dual with it, are you duplicating by putting it under the SIM column and the Dual Received column? Otherwise, how do you show that you had sim time (that isn't counted in the PIC time) from an instructor?

Good lord....

Never logged SIM time just for this reason. Why complicate things with SIM time?

(I know you said you figured it out, but I'll answer it for anyone searching in the future.)

Yes, that's exactly what you do. Add up any hours that are in both the "Dual Received" and "PIC" column, and subtract it from your PIC.

It is indeed legally PIC by the letter of the law, but it wasn't tie that you spent truly in command of the aircraft. Thus, the company doesn't want to factor it in, so you subtract that time out from your PIC column on the application.

Yes, and they should not be duplicated. Carefully read the notes at the bottom of the page (assuming the grid hasn't changed since I filled it out):

"Dual time should not be duplicated in PIC or other columns"

...and the note for the FE or Navigator column: "Simulator, FE, or Navigator time not included in total flight time."

I didn't put any of my sim time on the application anyway.

Otherwise, how do you show that you had sim time (that isn't counted in the PIC time) from an instructor?
Sim time assumes an instructor is involved. (If there wasn't an instructor, it really isn't valid time anyway.)

Good luck!

CA1900, thanks for taking the time to explain. I did an internet search and made sure I was following the directions and it was just as you explained as well. I had just never heard of removing that time as PIC from my past applications at various places. What a kick in the boys!

Followup question....my logbook reflects all of that time as PIC and so does my resume (really, it is only a matter of 200 hours, but when you are trying to look good....you know). Do you think there is a problem with having a difference between their application numbers and my records as long as they all add up in the end?

Thanks!

A few other operators do the same thing, including Southwest. It's a pain to subtract it out; believe me, I know! :D

Nope, no problem at all. It's perfectly valid PIC time, consistent with the FARs. There's no problem having them in your logbook or on your resume; they just ask you to subtract it out on the actual application, to get a better idea of your actual experience acting in command of an aircraft. The interviewers will understand why the number in the logbook differs from the flight time grid; if there's a question, they'll ask:

"Your resume said you had 900 hours of PIC, but the application only shows 700 hours. What's up?"

"200 of those hours were with an instructor acting as the PIC, so I subtracted them out."

"OK."

But I doubt they'll ask, because pretty much everybody will be in that situation. If the numbers do match the logbook, then they'll probably ask!
