I have recently accepted a position with NJA as a Encore FO in DAL. I didn't have any other choices for the date I needed. I am very excited and can't wait. Other than not having a APU, what can you tell me. How many A/C, schedules, usage, hints or gouge for training. Any info is good. I always like to get ahead.

I am very happy to almost be here. :)

Great airplane. Check your PMs.

I also will be starting with NJA in the Encore. I will be based in TEB. I am very excited, and have many of the same questions.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Congrats and welcome aboard captain dad and Insatiable! You will like the Encore its a great little airplane that is lots of fun to fly. There are currently 15 a/c in the fleet and we are supposed to get one more this year and that will be it. There are some rumours floating around about us getting the Encore+ but its a totally different avionics setup and if it happened it would likely be a seperate fleet ala Ultra/Encore.

My average seems to be 3-4 legs during mid tour days, usually 4-6 hours of flight time. You will occasionally do some longer legs (3+30 is my record) but most legs are under 2+30 with the average probably being around 90 minutes. Yes there is no APU (which sucks) but you have a heated wing, TCAS, real VNAV, a decent FMS, and amazing climb performance, plus the fleet isnt all beat to crap like the Ultras are, so it could always be worse. You will generally stay in one geographic area (ie Western US, Eastern US) but there are some days where you cross the country. Just last tour I did OTH (North Bend, OR)-LAS-FOE-STL-INT in one day.

As far as inital training goes thats the bad news. I believe they are still running newhires through Ultra training and then giving you differences training for the Encore (they are very similar). You will take a checkride in an Ultra sim unless you are very lucky. It sucks I know but there are only 2 Encore sims in the US and we only use 1 of them so thats how they get it done. I don't know if they are backed up again on training but it wouldn't suprise me since they have hired quite a few people into the Encore in the last 3 months. You might get some free vacation time after you finish sims.

There really isnt any secret to training just be sure to study and keep up with the class. As long as you have a good attitude they will help you with whatever you need. Some guys managed to get themselves in a bind a few month back when they showed up for aircraft training (its done after your sims and initial) and couldnt even produce basic numbers for their aircraft after a two month break in their training. Dont be that guy.

Working at NJA is the best job i've had, hopefully you will feel the same way. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. Good luck!

Congrats and welcome aboard! Like several other respondents, I'm also on the Encore. Please feel free to PM if you have any questions. The Encore is a darn good non-APU airplane. The extra thrust over the Ultra is just one nice perk over the U-boat.

Congratulations to you, Captain Dad and Insatiable! My husband is also in the Encore and can help with training problems/questions should any arise. Contact the Union Training Committee--that's what they're for...:)

I was in the Ultra/Encore fleet for awhile, not anymore. Excellent pilot group and the instructors are great too. Great company to work for...great pilot union. Welcome.

Thanks for all the great info and support. I can't wait to dive into the books and get started. I am in for the long haul and hope to make NetJets a permanent home. I just finished my last day at XJ and am a little out of sorts after nearly a decade of the same old, same old. Feels wierd but still very excited.

I am sure I will be posting more questions in the next month before Indoc. I will look forward to meeting everyone in CMH and DAL.
