After IOE does a new hire go straight to the 7and7 or do you have to work the reserve schedule first ?

Thanks !

Reserve until at least the next bid that you can hold 7n7. Quarterly bids for quarters starting in Feb. (wierd huh?)

It's a/c and seat dependent, and will change over time. But for now, most people will say you'll have it within the first few bids. Who knows?

Hypothetically, if you don't mind the schedule and want the extra money, is there any problem staying on the alternate schedule?

Roughly 90% of pilots are on the 7/7 schedule. Most of the other 10% volunteered for the reserve schedule. If you want a 7/7 line, it's likely that you will get one, probably just not your first choice.

You volunteer for the reserve schedule. Unless a lot of pilots bid reserve, it is unlikely that you will be turned away.

So how is the reserve schedule done? is it 6/5,6/4,6/4?

Feb shows 5/3, 4/3, 7/5 for a total of 16 days on. First two days of the month were off. Feb included Jan 31st and Mar 1st. With min days off and hard day off placement they can't use me any more than that. Last month I was used 18 days. The schedule is posted around the 15th on the previous month, so I do get to schedule appointments when convenient. Hard day requests can be used to guarantee imortant days off, like anniversaries and birthdays. Holidays are another issue. Some are blacked out, and the more popular hard day slots will be tough to get. Those requests are based upon seniority. Personally, I prefer the reserve only because I can't stand 7 day tours. Fleet has a lot to do with it, but by day 6, I'm toast, regardless of how much I flew.

Pilots have been told to count on being on the reserve schedule for at least 6 months. 10% must be on it, so if they don't get enough volunteers, the most junior pilots must take it. The Feb start time is due to the new contract and the transition period which preceded the start of the new schedules. The reserve has been improved over the old flex schedule. Now when you go out for 7 days you are guaranteed 4 days off afterwards. Up to 6 days out, you get 3 days off when you get home. The tours will most likely be 6 and 7 days (so I've been told) because of the cost of airlining. You get 4 hard days.
