No one really knows what is going to happen in Oct.

Nothing is a sure thing and plenty of people are very skeptical about this whole deal.

This is, by no means, a slam dunk. Don't get your hopes up.

The only thing that I heard that will happen in October is that the crew food will change to an all out "Subway" menu and the small dust busters in the XL will be replced with the new hand held "Kirby" vacuum cleaner....guess it does a better job of cleaning off dust and mites on the center isle carpet. I aslo heard that the aircraft are going to have cptn so and so.....written under the captains FWW. Overall, some pretty good changes if yah ask me.

Hey all,

I'm starting in OCT.. (should have took the Aug class, but had other things goin on this summer).. Can anyone currently at NJ PM me with any insiteful idea of what will transpire in Oct!

They told us in indoc that flying gets busier come Oct and the rest of winter. At least we have that to look forward to.

I am on a month to month lease in a ********************ty apt hoping to leave LA in a flash come Oct/Nov, or find a longer lease and a better place in LA if nothing changes.

IF whatever package we're presented with passes (I don't think there are as many skeptics as DO-82 thinks there are, though), then it seems there will be a whole new basing system. No more HBAs, no more domiciles, no more satellites. Maybe they go back to the old "Gateway" term, but there will be fewer bases than there are HBAs now. Apparently the HBAs that continually slide on and off the HBA list because of constant airline schedule changes will go away, although those currently HBA'd there would not lose those airports. So probably all of the larger cities and many smaller ones will still qualify as bases. As our union president said, Fargo made the list, so draw your conclusions from that.

That said, a caveat: as DO-82 said, it is not a done deal, so I would not come here counting on change. There's a good chance, but no guarantees. If you decide to come here and the IBB package doesn't pass, I don't want to hear anyone bitching because you have been warned numerous times by numerous people on this board. The only guarantee is that you will have to be based in one of 5 domiciles. If it changes, better for you, but don't count on it.

Well think about it. They didn't know where I was going to be yesterday.... When our plane broke down. I am already on another plane this morning.

If I break today ... they'll get us another ship by tonight or tomorrow.

I don't see a difference.
I agree wholeheartedly. But if that isn't part of the package, it would be nice if we were able to go back to changing bases monthly instead of quarterly.

A word of caution. Don't come here thinking that by oct it will all be better. It still has to be voted on.

Thanks for the responses...I have been around the block enough to know not to plan too far a head when it comes to aviation. If it's not on the property then we don't fly it. And not to make decisions based on what rumor is floating around that day. As I said, I am FULLY prepared to make the commute, just want to get an idea of whats goin on before I show up.

All you folks talking about the recent LOA's, pretty much don't have a clue!!

Let's see, after midnight events. Company can't get me home on day 7. So in most cases I get home before noon time on day 8. Oh, and how painful for me, the company compensates me with $1,600 for working an additional 12 hours (plus OT in some cases)!!! Yup, that is painful and I can see how that sucks!!! Having said that, fewer and fewer after midnights are occurring, not increasing contrary to popular belief!!

3 hour show/go for airlines. First of all, if you are dumb enough to show at terminal at briefed show time for a 3 hour airline then you deserve to rot!! Common sense goes a long way!! We are adults, and even though the company might not always treat us as such, we have a great deal of independence to do whatever it takes as long as the task is accomplished. Then, say you DID show 3 hours+ at terminal, oh boy, how painful, I take my Hotel and relax in my room even for 15 minutes. Never say no to a Hotel room!!

FRIDA LOA. Same thing. Company gives you a show for a 6 hour FRIDA assignment. AGAIN, if you show at briefed show time, you are stupid enough to deserve to ROT for 6 hours. Common sense!! Stay at your Hotel, but be ready to go within 10 minutes knowing you are on duty. I have NEVER in 8 years been on "standby" without an airplane or crew, and given an assignment that required to say pick up a rental car, or drop in another (earlier) airplane in less than 30 minutes!! That is more than enough time to get your but out of the Hotel and to FBO/Terminal.

Common sense!! Now, if you get assigned Hot Spare at FBO, that is a different story!! You better be airborne in 30 minutes since you have good airplane and good crew.

If anyone lets scheduling control your life more than necessary, you will be very unhappy. Again, common sense. I have never heard of ANYONE get fired not being at the FBO during FRIDA, show/go more than 3 hours and not at Terminal, etc!!

Common sense!! Bottom line is this. The company has me more or less for 14 hours each day for 7 days. When I'm tired, I say I'm tired and that's the end of it!! I let them run me as hard as they want, but when I need more rest, all I have to say is fatigued!! No questions asked!! It would be nice to have long layovers, sit at the beach, see places, but this is not a typical 91 or 135 job.

I couldn't help myself reading all the posts by the big baby whiners, even passing judgment on a TA that has not even come out yet!!! Wait and see. If you don't like it, you one vote just like all members!! And when it comes out, issuing opinions at that time IS a healthy thing to do!! But now, with nothing in place, is simply immature and childish!!

But then again, there are those who will ALWAYS complaint, no matter HOW MUCH THEY make, how much time off they have, etc. I for one am very grateful to have this job and the security that comes along with it. By the time I left this job, went to say Southwest, took a $80k paycut first year, it would take me 5 or 6 year just to get back to my current level, plus the time it would take to recoup the losses, IF upgrades continue as they are now, which clearly they won't. So that probably 8 or 9 years to recoup pay, not to mention I will have 12 weeks vacation in 2 years (4 weeks which is really 12 weeks), pay nothing for health care, 401k like no other (no retirement contribution or profit sharing like SOME carriers), live wherever I want, take 2 PAID vacations a year (positive space), and work about 21 weeks a year???

I can see how working for CAL, DL, UA, AA would make a lot of sense!! Doing very boring flying in and out of the hubs, flying that does not challenge me in any way shape or form, sitting in the right seat for 10 years, etc. Oh yeah, very enticing!!

In my opinion, this job has changed significantly (for the positive) since IBT1108/Strong Union came to power. No job is perfect, I am well aware of that!! But to me, this is as close at it comes!!!

AVGMIA, you are right, and wrong at the same time. True, after midnights have been decreasing, and the money is quite nice. However, money isn't everything. You can NEVER, and I do mean NEVER EVER, get back lost time, no matter how much money they pay you. Missing time with your family and friends because they don't get you home on your last day is non-recoverable. Personally, I'd much rather have the company respect my schedule and make an effort to get me home than be away longer but have a bigger paycheck. But like you said, after midnights are decreasing so maybe it's not such a big issue anymore. Personally, I haven't had an involuntary after midnight in years. And that's fine by me.

Your advice to ignore show times is so far off base you aren't even in the ballpark anymore! Folks, don't listen to this tripe! NJA has become a pretty decent place to work. Certainly our entire compensation package over the term of a career is pretty good, and appears to be getting better for the future. So, are you willing to risk your career here because you don't want to show when they tell you to? I know I'm not. What if they tell you to show at the terminal 4 hours prior to your flight? If they offer you a hotel and you accept, good for you. But if you decline, thinking you'll just hang at the FBO and not bother with the terminal until later, you're playing with fire. If they change the airline to a much earlier one and you can't make it because you're not actually at the terminal, you may have just flushed away your job at NJA over some bad advice you got on FlightInfo. Same goes for showing at the FBO for FRDA. BY the way, in my 10.5 years at NJA, I have had other planes drop in earlier for me to take, and gotten plenty of last minute changes that would have been difficult to pull off had I not been where I was supposed to be.

You are correct about scheduling though. They have you for 14 hours/7 days. That's what you're being paid for. Deal with it. And if you're tired, fatigue call. Easy.

The general attitude about the company..

The problem with the up an coming IBB vote is the pilots have a long, long long line of MISTRUST when it comes to what the company Sez , and what it DOES !

Most ALL of the older pilots distrust what the company does because of past crap they have given us...even now. Look at all the grievances per month..hundreds, and the company largely denies them so on to the SBA cout who awards them to the pilots (although not all)

I am very suspicious that the company wants to "make things better for us" without them coming out on top.

The vote will tell, and by the way, the addendum comes out in oct, we vote in nov and it wont be law (if it passes) until the end of Dec . So if there are any changes they will take effect in 2008. :bomb:
