I'm 11 for 15 Christmases gone with the airlines. I'm 0-for-2 so far in corporate...

BTW, I love Rudy's box lunches.

But, of course, I'm used to airline crew meals. ;) TC

The only thing I like of rudy's is their Rice pudding. I'm a sucker for it.

I do get sad seeing the corp guys trying to sleep in the lounge while waiting for the big man to return sometime today or maybe tomorrow. :)

All in good fun G

I had 8 NJ pilot's roaming the FBO most of the day last week, four of which were sitting at the FBO longer than I was. I doubt there were there just to kill time but more like waiting for the big man to show (or the bigger man...scheduling) to give'em a call.

All in good fun here too...

looks like we got kicked back to the fractional board.

Hey guys/gals,

I currently work for ASA and lots of us are ready to leave and find a new long term home. I have a few questions:

1. what is the junior base?
2. How hard is it to get hired? Is it like FedEx you have to know someone?
3. How does your Res. work short call / long call?
Are you gone all seven days in a row on normal lines and than seven days off?
4. How long has the last BBJ f/o been with the company?

Thanks

BO

This has been covered but I've got some time to kill so here it is again:

1. No such thing as a junior base here. 5 domiciles, PBI, TEB, CMH, DAL, LAX. So far new hires have been given which one they want. Recent rumors say some are not being offered right now, I don't know that for sure. You will know your domicile before accepting the job.

2. It doesn't hurt to have a LOR from someone here but lots of pilots have been hired who didn't. Keep trying every 6 months if you meet the min quals.

3. Reserve isn't like the airlines. Either you're burning a work day or not. The only time you're "On Call" is if they let you show at home or the hotel because they have nothing for you to do right away. Then you need to leave within 30 minutes of being called. It's not that often they do that. Reserve mostly means you'll work up to 18 days per month instead of 15. Hence the higher pay for reserve. We do sit a LOT of "standby" time at FBO's. The normal "default" schedule is 7 days on then 7 days off. You're usually gone all 7 days.

4. BBJ is super senior, we only have 3 I think. Junior F/O is somewhere around 17 years give or take a few. This isn't your standard airline 737. It's crammed with aux fuel tanks and has an obscene endurance time/range. You can find yourself anywhere in the world. It may take days to get your body back in sync with local time after a trip.

I haven't spent much time in FBO's in the past several years. Do alot of them offer wireless internet, whether it's free or not?

Most FBOs have free wireless, Direct TV or equivalent, sleeping toom, some have showers. Million Air gives you a Jag for a crew car(kinda fun every once and a while (I had the one in FVY up to 120 once)). Sitting in the FBO sucks but it's part of the job.

Yeah, I did my share of sitting around when I flew corporate once upon a time. Which was way before all this WiFi business and laptops. How about slugging bags around there at NJA? Do the FO's do that as well or what? Before I get flamed for not wanting to work etc etc, i'm just asking to have a better idea of the job description. I've slugged many bags into the BE400 I once flew.

Unfortunately hucking bags is part of the job. Seven days of workers comp, for throwing my back out to prove it. I think Griz even had an operation for a back due to on the job injury (Griz confirm :)).

Hucking bags in the Ultra is bad because of the tight cramped luggage space. You have to be a contortionist just to get it loaded sometimes. Most of the owners are getting better over the last couple of years, but some (newbies) just don't get it. They still think we're the Atlas moving van line.

It's only getting worse as far as aircraft go. I saw the baggage compartment on the Sovereign last tour. Holy smokes that thing is big! Crew said they loaded out some surfboards earlier that week, with room to spare.

I guess the thing to do is make the line guys earn that fifty daddy warbucks just greased their palms with. Get them to help lift. Some offer, most don't.
