Neopostism, as many have noted on here, is nothing new in this or any other industry... hell, look at how "W" excelled in politics. The problem lies in the bar being lowered for a select few no matter who it is... minorities, friends, family, interns, women, etc. Airlines should select from the most qualified applicants, if sons or daughters are within that pool of most-qualified, they should of course be selected. I'd rather be flying with a guy/ gal who has 5000 to 7,000 hours total time as a new-hire pilot than somenoe who has 1200-1500. Wouldn't you? Isn't safety paramont at every airline?

Safety is hardly a criteria in pilot hiring. Hate to sound lik pilotyip here, but I'd rather fly with a 5000 hour pilot who finished high school than a 2000 hour pilot with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. Is that how the HR chick looks at things? Nope. The organizations look for a means by which to disquailify potential applicants. Having no contacts is just one more way to get disqualified.
