Last year I got hired by American Eagle. After finishing ground school, I resigned and moved to different career, but I missed flying and came back to it.
Now I fly part 135 pistons, as a captain.

My question is should I mention (on interviews) that I was employed by Eagle, even though I was with them for few weeks, or shouldn't I?

Air Wisconsin recruiters kept calling me. I spoke with two of them over the phone and they were very much interested in face to face interview; but another recruiter called and she wanted to do a "mini" interview over the phone.
Everything was going well until I mentioned my story about Eagle. She called me back after two days and told me that they cannot offer me any employment, based on my interview over the phone.

After that, I turned down few interviews with other regionals.
Too many pilots tell me to go for interviews and don't mention anything about Eagle.
The reason is that I wasn't employed by them for that long.

Your opinion about this matter is very well appreciated.

What do you want to do? If you want to do airlines then stop turning down interviews. Or be less picky. If life is good where you are then maybe you should stay. Or maybe not. Who knows.

If I'm not mistaken the Eagle gs will turn up in your PIRA check. I'd say just tell them what you told us. You though flying wasn't for you so you got another job. After some time away from flying you realized that is what you love so now your back for a career. Plain and simple to me unless your not giving us the straight shot.

I know several people that have left aviation and then come back to it. Just be honest on your paperwork and interviews about why you left in the first place. Nothing wrong with telling the interviewers that you left for one reason only to realize that you really want a career in aviation.

Be Honest

Be honest with a good explanation of why you left AE. Aviation is a very small community and a background check may reveal your time at AE. The assumption will be you did not report AE because you are trying to hide something. We hired a pilot a few years ago who had left a cargo outfit in ground school to go to a regional. He did not report the cargo outfit where he only did ground school. The regional in the background check got the PRIA info from the company he worked at before going to the cargo outfit, and they reported he had left that job to go to the cargo job. The regional terminated him for incomplete background info. He was a nice guy who could fly an airplane so we hired him. The regional is now almost out of business and the pilot is Frac Captain, so in the end it might have been a stroke of fortune.

Don't Lie

Don't lie about it. Chances are they will find out. I see this happen quite a lot... people come in with lies on their application or incomplete information.

Did you really resign or did you fail groundschool and they gave you the choice of resigning rather than being fired?

Recently we fired a guy who failed ground school at another 121 carrier and lied about it. Not only was he fired but he was reported to the FAA for falsifying an application.

Thank you all for the feedback

Thank you all for your feedback.
I did pass all the written at Eagle, with average of 88%. Before the oral, I did get an offer in different field (banking and finance). So when I went to the oral, my heart was not in it. I decided not to take my second chance (Eagle gives you 3 chances) and then I resigned.

I LOVE flying and I thought if I am making a lot of money, I will rent an airplane on the weekend. Well, that was not enough.

Flying is what I am made for.

Again, thank you all for your replies.

Tell them you weren't ready at the time, and that you saved Eagle money (sim time) by leaving. At the time, it was a win win for both you and the company, and that was the mature thing to do. If you weren't ready, then you made the right choice. Now, you want to fly for an airline, and you LEARNED from your experience. I don't think you have to go into too much detail, but don't lie if asked a question. Just say that you weren't ready at the time. You saved them money---Eagle that is.

Bye Bye--General Lee

Thank you

Thanks a lot for your advice.
That is exactly what happened. I told them that my heart is not in it anymore and it will be like stealing if I continue, knowing that I don't want to continue with them.

Thanks again for the help.
