Need friendly advice please!

The 1 in 7 rule refers to 24 hours off. So you could finish up by 3pm one day, and do a night trip the next day (leaving after 3) and that would count as your day off.

There should be lots of decent corporate jobs in Dallas. I would look around some more. There are also options like FSI or Simuflite, which might get you a better schedule without much of a pay cut. And, working at a training center can be a great way to find a better flying job.

If you were talking about a small town, where you were flying the only large aircraft in the area, then I think the airline gig might make sense. But in a large metropolitan area, you should be able to find a decent 91 or even 135 job.

Well, I know some people at CAE and Bombardier, that would be great. But right now I think simuflite only has part time gigs. I might do the part time thing and fly at the airline? maybe. Sim instructor position would be great. But I'm sure theres plenty of competition for those positions. I know of many corporate flight dept in Dallas, but all have no openings. I mean, if I was already in Dallas flying 91 I wouldnt try to move anywhere else....EVER!

Hey CaptJag, I know the airline you're talking about...SCA in Dallas love. HAHAHA! small world!!! I got hired their as well. If you do a thread search on me you'll find me asking questions about a year back about the company. You're right, the people at the start up are a great group of pleople!!!! really nice, and it does seem like they have all their stuff together. Plus they seem to be pretty financially fit to start and their route structure seems very promising. I know for a fact that once they start flying and they call me for training there is a good possibilty I will go back and fly for those guys. Dallas is a great city and all of my family is downthere as well

In the late eighties I was living the dream as a "Corporate" pilot (part 91 only) on call 24/7/365 when opportunity knocked, I opened the door and spent the next 16+ years as a regional airline pilot. While it had its ups and downs the only time of higher stress was during type/check rides. The time off was "off" and when I left work I spent time with my family, friends and loved ones and not worrying about getting the "call". Even when on reserve the time off was "off".

Go for it. With your age and experience you can always return to 135/91 or, with the return of the majors to profitability in a few years, move up.

Very well said...thank you very much. For the record, I love flying the DA900, the guy I fly with is awsome. He always have fun flying, but exactly how you said! I can't be at a b-party, shopping groceries, eating, sh!ting or f***ing without thinking "that dam phone is about ready to ring!!" both the other pilot and I cant take time off without always thinking, well we'll have to make these days up next month....I really dont want to join the divorce club, thank God my wife has been soooo supportive but I really dont want to torture her or my kids anymore. Like being at the park with the family and 1 hour later telling them alright guys we gotta go home daddy has to go to work. Either way, the Jetstream seems like a fun airplane

are you nuts? regional airline? i could understand going to swa or one like it. there is obviously more to this than meets the eye. like a strong compulsion to move to dallas. either way - good luck.

As for the tread - I agree with others, I think you know what you want to do. Do it and don't look back. The chances of a start up making it are VERY small - but you'll be back in DFW and with all the hard days off you have you can start to keep your eyes and ears open for a local P91/135 job - sounds like you have some good time logged.

Captain Jaguar, I certainley can understand your dilema, as well, having lived working part 91/135 and my partner who lived, worked, breathed part 91/135.

While your question is one of sometimes we asked ourselves this too, day in and day out for months at a time.

Both of us made excellent money, no no no complaints on the pay above NBAA salary listings.

Family is so much a priority and this site is a great way to come on and ask questions, I went overseas to work on a Global, only to miss my austic son day in and day out, my other half with 5 grandchildren and being on the road 90 percent of the time. You have to do what is good for you and your family.

Both of us got Burnted out with the flying, so we take some time off here and there and then re-focus.

the 135 portion is the worst, people get on board and ruin the airplane, they make complaints, and the whole nine yards. They have no respect because they are not the owners. Some of the Brokers are real snakes! everything for themselves, while corporate is the way to go, none of us flew for the airlines, but we have done charter and my other half cargo. The pay was bad so he left, couldn't make ends meet.

I certainly hope you find what is good for you, but family is priority! and it took me a long time to realize this! Good luck on your quest and happy holidays to you and your family!

I'd punch out of this gig and leave the rearview mirror right in the captains seat of that 900.

hahahaha!! I agree, I think Whataburger in Dallas is hiring restaurant managers....35K a year to start I think
