Are there any airlines that shoot ndb approaches anymore or is everything Vor/ILS?

We use them as part of the approach. Don't think we have any airports that only have an NDB approach. Because of the limited radar coverage in some places, we can often be given direct to an NDB and the fly the full ILS after the procedure turn. Its often easier than being vectored very close in and having to "nose over" to catch the glideslope.

SUN has one that the EMB's do out of SLC for OO when unable to do the GPS.

En-dee what?

Do them all the time in the Saab up at KCIU. NDB RW33 to mins in snowstorms all day long. At CYXU too.

How long have you been off the Saab... I left it over 3.5 years ago and know both parts of that are currently wrong.... It would be 34 in CIU, and we haven't been to London on the Saab in ages.... Even going to Kitchner though, having a short crosswind runway didn't require an NDB...
Actually come to think of it. Not only Kitchner but now London have been cut entirely by Delta....

Still on the Saab. We did them in London, ON occasionally but of course we don't go there anymore. Still go to CIU and do them a few times here and there.

I was dead nuts on the radial from the OM NDB in EAU and the damn airport was still at 2 o'clock. Thank god we can't do GPS's in the Saab. They may not be accurate.

p.s. The ILS was down. I don't choose to do the NDB.

Is Great Lakes still doing NDB approaches? I can remember doing NDB circle-to-lands there on line and not just in training.

NDB approach into Ottawa Canada. Did it quite a few times in the CRJ, and did one 2 weeks ago in the LR 55.

Yes, But now that the Montana flying is gone we don't have many airports with only NDB approaches..

I can remember doing the NDB 26 at CYS and circling to the shorter runway when 8/26 was closed shortly before I left Lakes. But it's been a while.

i remember at lakes you had to have the NDB down cold... that was the only way in at Show Low, AZ... my instrument skills were never better than my time at lakes...

YX isn't approved for NDBs.... LOC/GPS is as simple as they can go these days. Also not approved for circling in less than VMC....

And that's why you do the NDB "backed up by the FMS" approach in the Saab. Worst I ever saw was being lined up perfectly with the parallel taxiway in London.

Just as we do the VOR "backed up by the FMS" in the CRJ... actually check that, the PF flies it in white (the FMS) and it's backed up by the PM flying it in green (actually using the VOR)

Actually, I learned to just shoot the ILS with a TW in YXU. Seemed like if the vis was down around a mile, it was tough to get in on the NDB.

I usually do, but there was something going on so we couldn't. I think it was a last second change or something and there wasn't time or something like that.

Thats still the NDB approach of choice in the training dept. of course with 25 kts of xwind.
