The analyst discussed he was bullish concerning airline stocks because of future merger potential.

When asked what combinations he saw, he said UAL and Us Air, NWA and Delta. He also said JBLU and FRNT were good targets for other carriers to acquire.

When asked why those combinations he said, UAL and US Air tried in 2000 and Doug Parker is the man for the job today. And concerning NWA and DAL, he said DAL pilots wanted to merge in March of 2007 with NWA.

He also said he owned JBLU and FRNT.

OK - here goes

1. Heard a rumor from a pilot who has a friend doing training in PHX Flight Center - USAIRWAYS. He said there were a few UAL people wandering around. Reasons unknown.

2. USA Today reported earlier this week that USAIRWAYS dropped the bid for China Route for 2008, will re-apply for 2009, and Delta now favored to get 2008 Route Award.

Why would you spend all that money - new aircraft type (A-340) plus route proving, pilot training, etc, if you were planning on merging with a carrier that has a big Asian Route Map (UAL)?

Just my two cents.

Hey GettoJet,

I don't understand, US Air didn't spend any wasted money on pursuing a China route. The A340 can be used on many desirable routes other than China. What money did US Air spend in pursuit of China?

Why were UAL people walking around a US Air training facility?

Why wouldn't UAL want A340's in a US Air merger?

Hey GettoJet,

Why wouldn't UAL want A340's in a US Air merger?

They already have 747s. One type of four engine a/c is enough for any company. Let's just hope this merger never happens....for everybody's sake.

Last time USAir and United were going to merge there was a pis$ing match about the 777 and the 330...and just like last time each carrier has (still has) too many problems to be a viable large company.
