Is it possible for a Navy FE to become a CWO (or even an LDO) and remain in the FE position? Does anyone know if that has happened before?

In 6 years of flying with FEs I've never seen or heard of an LDO/CWO still flying as an FE. Known plenty who came over from the enlisted side to AMDO and various Maint. jobs.

Thanks. While LDO would be stretching it, I could see an CWO being an FE in keeping with the 'technical specialist' role of what CWO's are supposed to be. However, I was/am not sure.

Not likely...you're hard pressed to find a senior/master chief in an airplane. Once you put on CWO/LDO, you become ground management. Flying career over.

Great, I was beginning to think I was totally out in left field with that idea. However, I am sure it is not all that common. I certainly thought it was possible but was just not sure.

Bupers online has the requirements for the flying CWO program the Navy is starting as well. Worth a check.

I think that will be a great program for the guys who just want to be pilots and fly. I flew with a lot of pilots who did not want to be a CO and would have rather just been a pilot. Wish they had that around when I was younger, although, I loved being an engineer......
