4AZ7 (San Carlos) at night could be very challenging. Very dark on moonless nights. No VASI or PAPI and on occasion the locals would like to shoot at the planes as they came in. I personally flew to the airport at midnight on Y2K and had to go around on the first try because bottle rockets were going up all around me.
E24 (Whiteriver) was also a death trap if you weren't familiar. During the day it wasn't bad, but at night you knew the peaks were out there you just couldn't see them.
Cibique was also a challenge. It was gravel and loved to eat props. Didn't have lights so we didn't have to deal with it at night. The winds would whip up around the hills and make landing a challenge. In the summer with the hot temps, climb outs were interesting.
Just about every strip on the reservation had its unique challenges, but in hind sight, it was also A LOT of fun.
As far as the jets, its a mixed bag of guys. Some have worked their way through the ranks and some were hired off the street.
The PC-12 was a blast to fly, especially considering the mission. It was made or air ambulance work. I miss flying it.
