National Airlines ?????

I just found an article on National copied from air inc mag stuffed in an old propilot mag. After reading it I looks/looked like they were on to something good. According to the article they were flying the 757 13 hour per day. ticket prices were affordable. pay rates could not have ch11 the co as they were more like RJ wages. So what gives? Why did they go belly up. The only guess I have is that because they focused on vegas and travel has dropped off there. Maybe if they used NY or some other city where many people are and allied with a major they still be around. What are your thoughts?

something I just noticed.....

the article had 2 of those "pilot perspective" columns also. As I was reading the one guy bio in the perspective I noticed he left out his employment history in the early 90's. HMMMMMM, any bells go off, so I checked the scab list and there he was, also the other "pilot perspective" guy showed up on the list as a WAA scab.

Lots of them were from the "bad boy list" is seems, some from the Wein Air days who drifted down to America west, then up to National, don't think somehow that had anything to do with the failure of the airlines though, more likely mismanagement at some level..looked like a good thing for a while didn't it?

There are two National 75's down in Northwest Arkansas (XNA) getting stripped for a new owner.....Also three Sun Country 72's are sitting out on the Ozark maintenance ramp. Where abouts unknown....

National was a great airline. The planes were full and they flew all the time. The problem was that they had too much overhead (plane lease, fuel, etc.) and not enough capital to cover it. They just couldn't make enough money.
