The guy who owned it actually based a Baron out of there. Pretty impressive for a 1200 foot runway. Bigger balls than I.

Scroll about 3/4 of the way down for more information.

Yup! :) Although they no longer have the baron, the family still has a helicopter based on the field. The gentleman who built it, Mr.Swope, passed away a few years ago. He was someone who had a great passion for aviation. Even though he lost an eye as a child, he logged thousands of take-offs and landings on that 1200ft, steeply sloped runway. There's a cooler pic of the field on the link that groundpointsix quoted.

Speaking of the Penalty Box, one of the biggest a$$ chewings I've ever gotten from a ground controller was at ORD last summer.

Ahh, I can still hear her voice like it was yesterday. ;)

oh heck no, not on this board! are you insane?!

lets just say in short it had something to do with a disoriented first officer, a debate with the captain as to which runway we were headed too, and a taxiway full of regional jets that we got in the way of. :D

maybe, but it sure beats the months of punishment i would endure at the hands of these ruthless individuals!

ah...c'mon...I can't handle this "flightinfo biotch" title anymore...

"Tower, Cessna 123 6 east Landing with lema taxi to the turtle" :D

*edit*
Got kinda lost on a dual cross country headed there and the CFI goes "uh...where's the MFD VOR?"
me: "Oh its just north of the field"
"so why don't we just tune it and fly to it"
so I spent the next five minutes tuning, identifying it and figuring out where we were in relation to it...then hung a right 120 degree turn and there was runway 32 right in front of me LOL.

I'm sure at this point he was thinking "oh God what a dumbass I have"...

sent me on a solo XC like 2 days later ... I LOVE Navaids:D

heh heh, i made it too easy for you.

i can't wait to come back home and visit MFD. maybe my friend's father will let me go up with him in their new king air. $5 million airplane, bought it brand new over x-mas. must me nice. of course, this is the kid with an 2 bedroom apartment in his hanger at MFD and an airstrip in his front yard and a hangar by his house that holds 3 pipers and 1 cessna, aside from the kingair. if anyone marries into either part of the gorman-rupp family, you'll be sitting pretty.

Sounds like the guy that did my Stg 1 and 2 CSE.

His dad bought him a 182T for him to build some time after the CFI. He flew it for like 5 weeks all over the place (dad bought the gas while the son gave him "instrument instruction") and hasn't flown it since.

The new plane? Either a C90 or B200 (depending on if he can get a partner or not).

...so he says...I wouldn't doubt it though.

Dude... i've told ya that like 2 times now that i'm at spartan ;)

I'm still waiting for a reply to that PM where i asked you if you were an instructor at spartan or still a student.

I'm currently taking T&M - instructor is Ed G.

Now give me some info **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**it! ;)

**edit: It could very well be that we had a class together. I've been there since 09/01. Are you the one they call "Muffin' Man" ? :D
