Yes to both. I don't remember that well if I found job leads through NAFI, but I believe it had an insurance program and pubs that were valuable.
AOPA is a no-brainer. I joined it when I was a private pilot long before I considered aviation as a career. As time went on, I found the magazine to be less interesting. But, the available confidential advice about medicals and legal issues are worth way more than your annual dues, notwithstanding the breaks you can get on rental cars and the like. AOPA also has connections to aviation insurance providers. In addition, AOPA dues are tax-deductable.
No job leads, but I initially signed up for the insurance program, which is great! It is priced about the same as the AOPA program, but also provides some limited legal coverage anytime you have an FAA problem (even non-accident/incident related). Have found the monthly Mentor magazine to be good about every other month, and the email newsletter isnt bad either.
I agree, AOPA is a no-brainer, with the information available there as well as supporting the most powerful GA lobbying group (we need all the help we can get lately...).
If you are an indpendent contractor, I believe both memberships are deductible as business expenses.
