Flyflorida,

You seem to be coming into this business with your eyes open, without the SJS. I like that. I will be very sorry to see sacrifices off of the bottom of the seniority list (if it happens), in order to obtain QOL for the entire group. But it will give you a better place to come back to...and after having done a fair amount of time here, I will tell you it would be worth it.

Let me give you one piece of advice, that I give to all of my FO's...build whatever time you need here to obtain an FO job at Skywest or any other regional carrier that looks like they have a future and a better lifestyle right now! You do not want to get trapped here in the long term....unless we can make significant changes to the contract. I didn't have that option...too many guys on the street. It is quickly becoming a seller's market. Take advantage of that. Life is too short to give it to CEO's like JO.

Regards - Checknsix

As a new hire (middle of ground school), I hope that jobs aren't lost. I do, however, know that it is a distinct possibility and am preparing for it.

I would like to thank you checknsix, for bringing a level head to this whole mess. I wish more folks would act in such a manner. I realize that I am coming into a company that has its ups and downs (yes, more downs than ups), but there is potential if the pilots can unite and show JO who the airline really depends on. I haven't been here 2 weeks and I'm already sick of the comments on here about Mesa. Yes, it sux...but come Sept 2007 that should change. Give it time and show support instead of hate.

You may now continue your regularly scheduled bashing.

Not bashing jsut asking, Do you really think that you pilot group would be united enough to vote yes for a strike.

Let's put it this way:

Pre-Mesa - - - - -> I hated unions. Why don't you just join the communist party, pinko?

At-Mesa - - - -> Strike vote .. . . no problem. Actual strike . . . . no problem. Kinda sorry we'll have to wait 3 years before we actually get released to do it.

I second that. I'd even tell the 2 years FO's to give it serious consideration.

anyone who is flying for mesa should be put on an island and be blown up!!!!

OK...I may be the new kid on the block, but I know an ignorant fool when I see one. From what I've seen, the pilots here have been nothing but professionals who go out every day and do their job. Yes, the contract sucks (it will get better next year), yes management sucks, but to come out and unsparingly bash all who work for Mesa shows what an arrogant pr!ck you are. As for your SR-71 flyin, take it somewhere else. Support your fellow pilots who are starting to come together to make things better for themselves and the rest of the industry.

Here are some things that Mesa MEC can and should do:

1) ALPA newhire presentations - you do them for every class. Here are some things to consider - take them out of the company classrooms - anywhere - your MEC office conference room, rent a confference room elsewhere, anywhere but the company classroom. Give them the usual ALPA speech and forms, but then tell them EVERYTHING that's been going on and what you're trying to accomplish. Plant the seed EARLY ON. Telling newhires to apply to SkyWest isn't helping your cause.

2) Educate and include your membership in negotiations - gather up information on best regional contracts in the country such as pay, duty rigs, cancellation/DH pay, per diem, quality of hotels, minimum rest, scope, etc. Then show just how miserable Mesa is in comparison to every other place. Then present what you're looking for, and make the entire membership fully aware that improvements won't break the company by no means.

3) Insist that ALPA has access to students at your flight school in Farmington. Then start talking to students about terms like scope, whipsaw, duty rigs, work rules, retirement, etc. See, we all know that majority of people in that school sees that shiny jet at the end, and most will sell their sister to get to fly it. Educate them about plight of the regionals, about what's waiting for them once the novelty of the shiny jet wears off.

Education is key...

Good luck!
