Not exactly.......
It's not that some "cheer" for the demise of legacy carriers.
It's the fact that poorly managed airlines and all of their financial problems are the reason good paying jobs are disappearing.
Quick example, Take UA.
If it went away, the remaining major carriers could breathe easier.
Then regionals could negotiate better contracts with healthier companies.
This would also mean more stability since regional airlines' flying would be coming from a better company than UA and all of it's troubles.
However, since UA is only worried about who is cheapest, regionals are competing to be that "cheapest " airline that gets the flying and the airplanes. So in order to survive, they go to their workers who already make cracker jacks, and say, "we need you to work for less money, or else we will loose UA's flying."
Scared pilots say, "O,k." and the race to the bottom continues.
Competition should be about who provides the best service , not who provides the best bargain. But as long as UA is still around, all the majors have to compete with this sick company. The regionals grow and you can kiss good bye to the good flying jobs this country had.
I'll bet that ALL of the airlines would show a profit within months, if UA went away. Then labor groups can put the brakes on the concessions and get on with business as usual.
So I say,
"Let SWA, Alaska, DAL, NWA, AA, Air Tran, and Jet blue grow". Those will be the companies that provide the good jobs that UA is giving to the regionals.
Sorry, survival of the fittest.
