1. First and foremost, what if ASA strikes? Do SkyWest pilots have to fly struck work? What has mgmts, and SAPA's stance been? Unlike the Comair strike, this will hurt the SkyWest bottom line. Will SkyWest pilots be named as scabs? All the quick upgrades and PIC time in the world won't be alot of help if you are a scab.

2. Whipsaw. Assume ASA folds and takes a Mesa type contract. Will mgmnt come back to the SkyWest pilots and ask for cuts? What would stop them?

3. Death by 1000 cuts. If Alpa does not come to SkyWest, what will stop management from bringing more unilateral concessions? PBS, and its forced 87 hour lines, the Bucket System, etc. Can the pilots of skywest expect more of this type of thing?

There is a lot of chatter on this site from people proclaiming to be former Alpa members, now at SkyWest. These posters blast ALPA pretty hard. Some of it is definitely deserved. As new hires, I would hope you get your info from various sources. Ask the captains you are flying with, and see what their outlook is. For those that came from former ALPA carriers, do you think you would have been better off with out ALPA. Do you honestly believe that ALPA is what caused your ills at your former employer.

Skywest pilots are fortunate to be in the position they are. I hope they can keep what they have. SkyWest Inc. is raking in record profits. I hope the pilots can get their fair share. I hope ASA can do the same. If the two were to bargain collectively, the leverage would be staggering. With airline fortunes turning, now is a pretty good time to be hitting up the boss for a little extra scratch. JA is getting his, are his pilots getting theirs?

Good post - and just to add a little something, the outcome of the ASA pilots' negotiations seem more and more to be hinging on the SkyWest vote, with both management and ALPA taking a "wait and see" attitude. ALPA wants "industry leading" to raise the bar. However, others feel ASA should try to stop the transfer by taking something close to status quo, with regressive Preferential Bidding and Training sections. These two sides are nearly balanced. If SkyWest fails to vote in ALPA, I would not expect the ASA pilots to hang tough for much longer.

This is a vote for unity. If the vote fails, expect pilots to act out of their own narrow self interest at both airlines.

Talk about in fighting. Pilots getting vicous as it is every pilot for himself, selling each other out, energizing the whipsaw as management looks down and laughs...

Where is there more fear? ALPA or every pilot for himself....

Hopefully folks realize the situation is much scarier if it is every pilot for them self. There is already a "coalition" forming on this very board that will "rescue" the ASA MEC & CNC if SkyWest's vote fails. Who knows if they will win, but they are pretty clear about their plans if they do win. I did not see "Industry Leading," did you?

Fins,

I thought you quit this board?

I did dammit - willpower, I need willpower. The SkyWest vote is semi important.

no worries, and I agree-it's important.
