That's pretty damm funny!
I flew to Bonaire out of ORD and it was a smoking flight, I took full advantage of the rare freedom and tortured the rest of the non-smokers with an endless barrage of chain smoking exctasy.:) I think it is only US carriers and a few others that prohibit smoking on flights. This was 2 years ago so things might be different now.

What airline was that? I'll remember not to fly on them.

I was trying to remember, it was a few years ago, it was a foreign airline but I don't recall the name. I can find out and call the Scuba shop that set it up if it's important.

Ahhh...it was set up by a dive shop....say no more! Buncha weenies trying to raise our SAC rates by filling our lungs with that nasty smoke so we'll have to buy more gas... :D Naw, not important.

How'd you like Bonaire? I haven't been there yet. Took a trip to the Turks and Caicos this year and did a 410' dive on an 8,000' wall there...the deeper we got, the more decorated the wall was. Pretty cool. We found a couple of little caves there, but didn't have the gas to explore them.

The FAA won't allow any foreign carriers that allow smoking on flights to come into the US anymore. They got into a big fight with Aeroflot a year or so ago about it. Aeroflot lost the battle.

What mix were you diving?

Peter
10/60 for bottom, 32% for travel and deep deco, 100% for shallow deco. We ended up with about a 120 minute RT for 15 minute BT.

I never smoked, but on the DC9/MD80, close the outflow valve and open clearview window and all smoke promptly exits the cockpit so no one is affected but the smoker.

Nice. Gotta love the extended deco stops for that length of bottom-time. Just curious, but who took you guys out there?

Bonaire has the best shore diving in the Carribean. Most of the Caribbean has been ruined by Aspergillus from over farming in Africa. It kills the coral after it travels on the sand in the trade winds. Bonaire was still in good shape 3 years ago but I doubt it escaped the last few years. Hawaii is still premo as well as Indonesia. I haven't been to Aussie but I heard it's choice. BTW, those are some deep dives, you’re a lot crazier than I, and that isn’t easy to do!

Dude, that's nothing compared to some of the run times I do at some of the local caves. Granted, they're not as deep....but we do 30-45 minute BT's with an average of 260-290'. You do any caving?

I flew into Grand Turk and started talking to one of the fuelers there. I asked him if he knew of any places to contact regarding scuba diving in the area, and he asked what type of diving I normally do. I told him I normally do deep wrecks and cave.......as it turns out, he's an avid tech diver himself. He called a friend of his, who told me he could take me for a deep wall dive the following day. I had never done one, so I decided to do it. I hooked up with somebody else(that lives in the Turks) I knew from cave diving in Florida, and we went diving.

The guy I met at the airport was Rodrigo. I never caught his last name(nor did I understand half of what he was saying). His buddy(that set all this up, AND supplied me with all my gear) is Alonso. Great guys...very friendly! Helium is somewhat hard to come by out there, but Alonso had several cylinders at his home. There's a commercial operator out there called O2 Technical Diving(that's their website, too - no spaces). I may go to them for some rebreather training....I've heard great things about them.

You do any tech/cave diving? If you do any in the Florida area, PM me...maybe we can hook up and do some diving.
