Jimmy Buffett
Barometer Soup

Follow in my wake
You've not as much at stake
For I have plowed the seas
And smoothed the troubled waters
Come along let's have some fun
The hard work has been done
We'll barrel roll into the sun
Just for starters
We'll barrel roll into the sun
Just for starters
We'll barrel roll into the sun
Just for starters

Jamaica Mistaka

It was a beautiful day
The kind you want to toast
We were treetop flyin'
Movin' west along the coast
Then we landed in the water
Just about my favorite thrill
When some asshole started firin'
When we taxied to Negril

Just about to lose my temper
As I endeavored to explain
We had only come for chicken
We were not a ganja plane
Well you should have seen there faces
When they finally realized
We were not some coked up cowboys
Sportin' guns and alibies

Come back
Come back
Back to Jamaica
Don't you know we made a big mistaica
We'd be so sad if you told us goodbye
And we promise not to shoot you out of the sky

I Don't Wanna Die in an Airbus

and

Kelly Clarkson's "Break Away"

Grew up in a small town,
And when the rain would fall down,
I'd just stare out my window.
Dreaming of what could be,
And if I'd end up happy,
I would pray.

Try not to reach out,
But when I tried to speak out,
Felt like no-one could hear me.
Wanted to belong here,
But something felt so wrong here.
So I'd pray,
I could break away.

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly,
I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky,
And I'll make a wish, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away.
Out of the darkness and into the sun,
But I won't forget all the ones that I love.
I'll take a risk, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away.

Wanna feel the warm breeze,
Sleep under a palm tree,
Feel the rush of the ocean,
Get onboard a fast train,
Travel on a jetplane,
Faraway, and break away.

Buildings with a 100 floors,
Swinging aroundrevolving doors,
Maybe I don't know where they'll take me.
But I gotta keep moving on moving on,
Fly away, break away.

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly,
Tho its not easy to tell you goodbye.
Gotta take a risk, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away.
Out of the darkness and into the sun,
But I won't forget the place I come from.
I've gotta take a risk, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away.

Break away, break away

Sending the Old Man Home

They'll tear down the officers clubs
And write off the overdue subs
So let's drink to their memories
Our heroes and our pals
To those crazy Navy flyers
To those swell Hawaiian gals

No Plane On Sunday
Written by - Jimmy Buffett & Mike Utley
From - Floridays

You can throw your luggage down
Lose your cool and stamp around
But there's nothin', nothin' you can do
Wipe away your girlfriend's tears
Go to the bar and have some beers
There ain't no way the bird's gettin' through

No plane on Sunday
Maybe be one come Monday
Just a hopeless situation
Make the best of it's all you can do
'Til they get through

Overheard the engineer
Say somethin' 'bout the landing gear
Now we're runnin' strictly on island time
I know you got someone back home
So do I, it's tough alone
Aw, come on, it's just a minor crime

Nobody captures the romance of flying quite like Jimmy Buffett.

And don't consume copious amounts of Margaritas, rum, beer and tequila shots at a Jimmy Buffett concert while in the middle of new-hire ground school...kinda makes for a rough day of CRM training... So I hear....

I like your CRM.

Silver Wings - Merle Haggard

Silver Wings, shining in the sunlight
Roaring engines, slowly fading out of sight....
Nobody mentioned "Are You Ready to Fly?" by Dune.

How about "Magic Carpet Ride"? I spent about 1800 hours "Right between the sound machines" flying freight....
I think that one is my favorite!!! Reminds me of flying late at night with someone special!

Bigger than my Body- John mayer

"Countdown" - Rush

"Presto" - Rush (not about flying exactly, but has one line in it that's relevant)

"YYZ" - Rush (the rhythm pattern is the Morse for the YYZ VOR @ Totonto: -.-- -.-- --..)

Fly by Night - Rush

If you dig music from the 1940's

There is a song called "Comin' in on a wing and a prayer" that may seem appropriate for some freight operations!

I think Pink Floyd and Steve Miller have been covered... Hugh is channeling Jimmy... how about "Turn Me Loose" - Loverboy.

Why don't you turn me loose,
Turn me loose,
Turn me loose,
I gotta do it my way,
I wanna fly.

And "Treetop Flyer" is a classic but I think it's Stephen Stills.

How about some instrumentals? Watched an old Jimmy Stewart flick at the crashpad the other day called "Strategic Air Command" Stewart gets recalled to active duty and flys the Convair B36 as Aircraft Commander. That airplane is a big old 10 engine long range startegic bomber with 6 pusher piston engines and 4 turbojets mounted in pods out near the wingtips. I mean this sucker is as ugly as sin. But some of the aerial scenes with the background instrumentals just made you want to get out there and go flying. Same thing with an old TV show from the mid 60's called "12 O'clock High" I still remember the melody to that theme song to this day.

PHXFLYR:cool:

Using that theme, how about Van Halen's

JUMP

"Approaching Pavonis Mons by balloon"

Flamming Lips

Sorry to re-hash this but I'm sitting here listening to my I-Pod and the ultimate flying song is playing. I can't believe I didn't think of it earlier or for that matter anyone else. "Time for me to Fly" by REO Speedwagon. Talks about breaking up with women and flying all in the same song.....LOL

V2

Ride of the Valkyries - Wagner (Apocalypse Now)
Bullet the blue sky - U2
Jet Pilot - Bob Dylan
& most anything from the Stone Temple Pilots.
