We have 3 DC-8's at Murray Air, two 63's and one 71. They fly mainly in support of the automotive industry in North America. During the Christmas season UPS keeps us busy domestically. International trips do come up from time to time, but lately are scarce. They have been working on some international contracts, but it's tough to compete in a widebody market with narrowbody aircraft. We've had the 8's for a few years now, they used to be on a 125 certificate, but now are all part 121. We also have two Casas, two Jetstreams, and one Saab.

Thank you for the info. As far as hiring for the DC-8s, do you have any plans? What are the minimums required if seats become available or do you mainly recruit internally? How's the QOL in terms of schedules/days off?

No classes planned right now, last group hired is on IOE now. Hiring is sporadic based on needs/attrition, etc. We strongly consider guys from the 135 side when hiring. Unless they're on the Casa, they usually they prefer the schedule of the passenger shuttles to the one hour call out on the 8. We don't really have hiring minimums. It depends on the applicants at the time and what we need. QOL is decent if you can stand being on call in a rotation, i guess it depends on what you're used to. Schedules are done on a monthly basis. I have 9 days off this month, which is typical, and seldom work weekends. When on duty, you're on call 24hrs. Hope this helps.

They've got some nice looking DC8's, I saw them nightly in SLC last week doing the UPS runs. Does Murray fly to Central America?, or I might have one of your planes confused with the Arrow 8's

Hey, thanks, they're tough old birds. Your 74's are very sharp also, love the logo on the tail. We haven't done Central or South America since I've been with them, so most likely it's Arrow out of Miami, or maybe ATI.
