I'm working as a part time CFI (about 30hrs/month) and hope to apply to the regionals in about 6-8 months. I've got 1400TT and 150 multi but havnt flown a twin in about 1.5 years. Money is tight and I dont have any chance of flying a twin in the near future. Should I just bite the bullet and buy the multi time? If so how much? I try and stay durrent in a frasca multi sim (few hours a week) and feel that I keep up with the aircraft and could pass a sim eval at a airline.

twin time building

Don't buy it. There are numerous operations that need co-pilots and you can log the 91 legs.

Some say you can not count the time, but I disagree and so do the 6 regionals I got offers from.

Finding gigs like these does depend on where you live, but usually you can fly right seat in a 421, king air, ect. Look around. Try the classifieds on AOPA. Also Jsfirm.com has some opportunities once in a while.

Most regionals usually offer a sim prep before the interview as well.

If all else fails:
Do you have your MEI? If so teach in a twin. Lastly, Get checked out in a flight school twin and fly it around with friends or split the cost with friends (pro-rate).

PM me if you need some info on where to find co-pilot gigs depending on where you live I may know of a few.

Best

Apply to the regionals you have enough to be considered, if you think you are above the bottom of the barrel you have a 100% chance of getting in.

You've got the time, don't sweat it that type of currency. You should start applying now becuase its a 3 to 6 month process anyway.

Don't Wait.

Don't mention that you're not current on an app or resume. Talk about if and only if it comes up in the interview... and it probably won't.

Good luck

just fly a sim to brush up on twin flying skills. If I where you, I would be more worried about working on your scan and IFR Skilz than current twin time. Peace out

You have the time already. Get some sim time for IFR currency, and you might want to buy a one or two hour checkout in a light twin. Some airlines do want that multi currency, they consider it bad form to apply for a job you are not current for. Good Luck.

If money is tight now I dont know what you are going to do at the regionals. I made more instructing than I ever have as an FO.

I really haven't had any problem whatsoever surviving on first year pay...but then again I don't have any children or debt outside of student loans. Its not easy per se, but its not hard...

The problem is I only instruct part time as I'm also in college. My income ends up being about $10k/yr and I manage to live the college life (read poor) on that amount. Thats with college loans and living in the dorms. Any kind of twin time would have to be paid for by Visa and Mastercard. Something I would really like to stay away from.

Just practice on your ME skills on your computer and go over the systems of the twin you have the most time in just in case they ask something about it. Brush off the rust.

Why not go fly boxes for a few months? Lots of freight jobs out there. Makes you a better pilot if you manage to survive.
