I just got a copy of "Fate is the Hunter" on DVD off Ebay. Paid 16 total with shiping and it was well worth it. Great movie, nothing like the book. I'd highly recommend seeing it or getting a copy for thoes who like aviation movies.

Movies ...

LearLove,

That is a great movie. I'm gonna check E-Bay and see if there's another copy. I've been looking for "The High and the Mighty" with John Wayne but the only source I've found is an unlisenced Canadian vendor who wants USD35 for a VHS tape. I want it, but not that bad.

I read the book roughly 2 years ago and loved it. Did not know there was a DVD movie for it. Time to search the web....

One of my favorite aviation books -- haven't seen the movie though. I read somewhere that the used to play it on networks like TCM all the time, but stopped a while back for some reason. One more item on my to-do list :)

Ernie Gahnn was so disgusted with the way the movie Fate Is The Hunter turned out that he and the studio spent years in litigation Your right the book was excellent, the movie was just plain stupid. I have heard the The High and The Mighty might be out later this year. Not sure what the problem was but I believe that John Wayne's family had it tied up. Good movie and the original airport styled adventure flick. If you like Ernie Gahnn stories, try Island In The Sky. Good cast and a believeable script. Black and white.

Bad movie compared to book

ditto Spooky, the "Fate" movie is so far from the book if you had not had a title on the book you would not think there was any association. "The High and the Mighty" and "Island in the Sky" are real close to the books and great moives to watch.

I agree with the above. "Fate is the Hunter" in my opinion is the greatest aviation book out there but the movie left a LOT to be desired compared to the book. I've also heard that the Wayne family intends to release "The High and the Mighty" later this year and I can't wait to get my hands on that DVD :D .
