Got a question. Are they any good sources, books etc., out there that edamacate pilots on flying in mountainous terrain? I don't want to be that guy and become a stat.
There are a couple of really good books on mountain flying- two that I might suggest;
Mountain Flying by Sparky Imeson
and
Flying The Mountains - A Guide For Flying Single-Engine Aircraft by Fletcher Fairchild Andersen
Both of these books are great reads for pilots who want to get book smart on mountain flying before exposing themselves to the real deal. Of course, there is no substitute for doing the real deal.
What area will you be flying in if you don't mind me asking?
Also see The Guide to Bush Flying: Techniques and Concepts for the PRO by F.E. Potts
is to take a mountain flying ground course and do a mountain checkout flight with a qualified instructor. If you have good study materials, the course can be optional, but the flight mandatory.
Thank you for your reply. I'm currently flying in the Rockies all along the front range area. The winds can cause some bad rotors here. Gotta go look for those books. Thanks.
