Ok, Since the snowboard thread was started, and both are bad for your flying, Any other dirt bikers out there?

My current weapon of choice is a YZ.

Awww come on, there has to be other airline/corporate types that still ride, my buddy and I can't be the only geezers that like to fly without wings!!

When we sat reserve in base it was a good time killer, We couldn't have been the only guys in the airline industry that had motocrossers at the crash pad!! It sure beat watching skinemax, eating cheetos, and seeing your A$$ grow!

Not talking about racing, too old for that stuff anymore. I have met several guys from various airlines out on the trails and track. We let the 16 and 17 year old's scoot by and give them a good sympathy grimace when they eat it.

Yeah I like to ride but I can't figure out how to and listen to the phone at the same time. We only have 15 minutes to call back.

A little creative use of velcro and a sewing machine (wife or girlfriend) and I came up with a cell phone mount for the bars. Just keep tabs on the new voice mail display.

I wouldnt recomend it for mud bogging or stream crossings but it worked well enough!

Short call was tough, had to work those PT times and know where you fell in the days pecking order. Long call was great though. Plenty of time to clean up the bike and yourself and head to the airport.

One good thing I can say about being furloughed and now flying corporate is there is plenty of time to fish and bike!!!! Still on call, but got lucky with my current employer. I have never had a trip I didn't know about at least 24 hours in advance.

I have a CR 250.
Been riding the desert and trails around Southern California for 25 years. Don't ride as often as I used to, but still like charging up some monster hill and then try to figure out the easy way down. Had a couple YZ 250's and a CR125 in the past.
I follow the Supercross/Motocross every week on the internet webcast and go to Anaheim Supercross most every year.

A turd in OH!

I'm here for you baby! Curently, I'm pushing a CR125. As far as Ohio trails go that's almost enough, almost! Thinking about competing next year, not that I'd be in the mix, but **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** it would be a rush! BTW how about winter X, I love that crap!

Big Honda fan here!!! I started on the CR 80, upgraded to a CR 125, now I'm on a CR 250. It's the best workout a pilot can get, both mentally and phyically. Nothing beats hitting a tripple, 6th gear, balls to the wall,,,,,,,,,,,,,,WOW...........

It deffinitly compares (hands down) to a ADF approach down to mins............(it's an aviation board., I had to relate some how)

I ride a CR450F (love those thumpers!) and my son rides a YZ250, with a couple of RM125s and my old heavy Stroker exceserized and still slow KLX300 sitting as backup in the garage.
I ride nothing but trails and a few local hare scrambles while my son rides both motocross and woods. Those new KX thumpers appear to be very promising bikes.

hmmm...there was a time i used to wring out a CR 125, until i hit a sinkhole in a thicket of mesquite bushes (they arent trees, and i refuse to call em other than bushes) and ended up leaving one of my knuckles underneath that particular bush. two surgeries later and i coldnt get the smell of 2 stroke out of my blood, so i went back to my 4 wheeler roots and picked up an '87 Quadzilla bored and ported to a 532cc single cylinder monster...ive yet to have any of the new-fangled thumpers keep up with me on the straight-a-ways :D

Knew there had to be some of you out there! I'm on a yz 426 now. First motox thumper I have owned. I love it, no more pre mix, less maint. and it has the added bonus of an anti theft device..........Since your average theif has no idea how to start it!!!!:D

Now if they will just let me build that three mile track around the edge of the runway at my home base I will be set!

Any of you pilot/Motorcycle types in the southeast? Sounds like a good road trip, A weekend of bike riding and telling lies about aviation! If I can figure out how to stuff a YZ into a Citation we can add all the west coasters into the mix!

I have a 2002 WR250. I love the bike, but I wish it had a little more low end power to get the front end up when I need it. I sit reserve and have plenty of time to ride. This winter has been very wet in Kentucky and the mud gets old after awhile. I enjoy trails mostly, but have never been on a track before. I'll have to try it out soon.

Do quads count? I'm running a Yam. Raptor around the trails in OH. Thought about a YFZ450 for racing but those guys that run harescrambles and such are nuts. I'd like to see the day I make it to a regional before I go kill myself.

Hey flybulb, enter yourself in the beginner or like class that your local or state club has for a few hare scramble races and soon you'll find yourself hooked. I didn't start racing untill I was in my late thirties and was very intimidated by the rugged looking competitors I was up against but soon found myself mixing it right up with them.

I ran the beginner class untill I felt comfortable enough to run the next class up for my age group and then wished I would have advanced sooner. We even bought a 30ft travel trailer with a ramp and cargo area in the back for the bikes and racing, it's a total blast.

Low-n-Slow,

I thought about it, but I'm working on my CFI right now and I want to try and get it finished before I go drop money on all my gear and suping up my machine. Thanks for the info though, I may try it this summer.

Looking at the '04 KTM 250SX. Worked at a shop in LBB for 5 years, in college then between flying jobs. Miss it alot. Good fun, good people. Spent most of my time motocrossin' some enduros and hare scrambles. Lake Whitney is the best, sitting around Ponca City for a week sux. Spent more time in trouble than ridding!

CR-125 here but should probably sell it before I get hurt and can't pay any of the bills. A typical outting turns into a drunk fest and that spells trouble if you know what I mean. They lots of fun.

Ran local Enduros on older Honda CRs in the early 80s, and raced Vet C and Open D classes at local AMA tracks on a Yam WR500 in the mid 90s. Big, heavy air hammer ... but that b!tch would scoot. Very stable, but too heavy and not nimble enough for these new outdoor tracks that everyone wants to doze up like it's AMA indoor Supercross. Tossers ... I raced one round on a new CR250 with works suspension and motor and the difference was like night and day.

Lots of fun ... but moto-x will kick an old guy's a$$ pretty hard if he's not in really good physical condition ... and I wasn't. :D

Back in the day I raced 125 and 250 intermediate. I had lots of fun raced with guys like Denny Stevenson and Jeff Emig on 80’s. Before I started taking flying lessons I took a header off a 90-foot triple. At the time the race promoter decided to put the experts in with the intermediates I was passed a guy for 2nd overall hit the triple top out in forth gear on my 250 and lost my chain. I did a superman, my bike endoed so bad it did a complete flip and landed on me with the sub frame in my back. I knocked out my front teeth broke my helmet and really screwed up my back. After 3-4 weeks recovery time I raced one more time and won in the 125-intermediate/expert class. Two weeks later I sold both bikes and started to fly. All in all I broke both thumbs one ankle some ribs a face and lots of concussions in 13 years of racing and riding. My saying was if you weren’t winning than you should be crashing trying and if your not crashing than your not trying.

Now I race mountain bikes and still break things like ribs and helmets.

if your not crashing than your not trying.
That was pretty much my philosophy. :D

Ya know the funny thing about crashing and trying harder, I always seemed to go through that moving into a new class. I was a 250 Int also. Also rode the A class in enduros and Expert Hare Scrambles/Xcountry. Working at the shop was the job I would always like to go back to. Not that I don't like my flying job, I do. The shop was laid back, no stress and they understood if you got hurt on Sunday.
The Houston SX is on Feb 14th. My youngest son hasn't been to one yet. I think he'll like it, if he is only 2 yrs! ESPN 2 usually runs the SX's on Sat @ 1100 CT with the 125 first then the 250's. I have seen the new format of MotoWorld. I think it sux! There is a cool show called Top Dead Center after that is ok.

I can't tell you how many of my co-workers ride. It is the number one topic of conversation around the base. I would have to agree that it is the best work out and release there is for a pilot!

I started out on an old CZ 250(its a Czech bike similar to a Macco). It was built in the days of no jumps and all turns type racing. It was a rough riding SOB, but it was a blast to ride. Now I putt around on a CR500. I love to ride the trails and in the mountains. Its hard to find the time anymore though.

I raced local MX for a number of years, mostly 125's. Most recently I worked as a mechanic for Factory Yamaha, and DeMarini Motorsports. I got the chance to go to the West Coast SX and a number of U.S. and most of the Canadian Nationals. One of these days I buy one of the new thumpers and go play around on it.

I would love to cross!!

That aaid, I had a co-pilot on the lear who was a full pro crosser on the 125 and 250. He ended up missing a jump and broke both his ankles, He came very close to loosing both his feet, so he quit, and became a pilot.

Proof that you'll never get the high octane fuel out of your blood, right now he's starting to race again on weekends......

Raced the AMA Flat Track Series in the 70's. Trail ride now, 1995
KLX-650 with a Baja kit(no elec. start, sometimes a real bear). Down here in Central America there are few fences and thousands of miles of un-mapped logging trails. Not many guys to ride with though.

Bob Hannah still rides.

Hell yea!

I got a 2002 YZ 250. Brup Bruuuuuuuuuuuuup! Out on it 3 -4 times a week.

Quick question, I'm about to start a regional airline ground school next week and was thinking about putting the bike away to avoid injury while on probation.

If you break a bone and can't fly, will the airline can you while you're on probation?

Anyone know of some seceret stashes in Southern California hook me up, I'll share mine!
!!

I'm currently riding a 2001 XR 650 with a baja kit. It took me 6 months to learn to start it after I got it.(The four strokes are quite a bit more tempermental then 2 strokes) After I figuured that out and put a "go fast kit" on it, It has become the best dirt bike that I have ever owned.

I still LOVE to ride. My 1st bike was a Zuki JR 50 2 stroke automatic. I got my 1st bike in 2nd graded and have never been without a bike since. I currently have a 2003 CR 250. My son is 1.5 yrs old and I plan to put him on a bike ASAP. I want him to be the next RC or McGrath. My brother rode Arena Cross for a while which is like the minors for Motor X. Great sport with good family atomosphere and usually many good look girls running around if your single.
