There was an old timer who died a few years back ('99? '00?) AOPA did an article on him. Did pipeline patrol, 8 hours a day, I think 7 days a week generally, in a Cub or somesuch little airplane. He passed away with over 60,000 hours in his logbook.
Ed Long, Montgomery, Alabama. They have a nice little display case with some memorabilia in the FBO there if I remember correctly.

CNN story here.

Supposedly, John and Marth King, the couple with those annoying videos, are rumored to, between the two of them, posess EVERY certificate and rating available (hot air balloon, airplane multi-engine sea, etc). They are also said to have a TON (not sure the number) of type ratings.

John and Martha do I think posess every cert and rating but they only have three types a piece. LR-JET, CE-500, and DA-10. From the FAA website.

WOW!!! I just looked up his profile on the FAA page. Does he go and buy types for fun or what is his story. Interesting to see all the other certificates he has as well.

From shear boredom I suppose.

About 16 years ago I attended an AOPA sponsered CFI refresher course. One of the instructors was a recently retired FAA senior Air Carrier inspector. This guy put a copy, on the overhead projector, of the ATP certificate that he was issued during the last few years that he was with the FAA. Under limitations it read "UNRESTRICTED", in other words this guy was legal in everything. He mentioned that it came about as a result of an incident where he tried to pull some airline pilot's certificate. The inspector had been in the cockpit of some airliner when the crew did something stupid. The pilot's attorney argued that the inspector wasn't qualified to critique the crew because he wasn't type-rated in the particular aircraft that they had been flying. Long story short, he ended up with an inrestricted ATP. It also was of limited duration, l believe that it was 24 months, like a CFI certificate. He mentioned that the FAA had issued these certificates only to a handfull of their senior inspectors.

Really, I only count 94 type ratings...

Just because he is unrestricted does not mean he is competent in anything, maybe legal though.
