Make it stick? Like flying or playing/reading music, the ones who are the best at it are the ones who do it the most. Use it or lose it!

Dauntless has a program that I used called Pilot Morse. I think it's about $20, but you can download it for free and use it for a short period before it times out. I practice by observing license plates of nearby cars and doing the code in my head.

I can't stand to hear more bells, whistles, bleeps, beeps, etc. There's already plenty of noises going on without adding morse code to it.

I had a student who knew morse-- another Ham radio operator dude. He kept this piece of info to himself, and when we got to IDing VOR's, he'd just go, "Yup, that's XXX" or whatever. At first I thought he was trying to pooh-pooh IDing the navaids, and I got all in a fervor, "You gotta look at the chart man! You gotta match up the morse to the chart, or at least make an effort!" and he just turns to me and told me he knew morse. Good laugh at that one. Once, we were flying around listening to 122.7 or some other popular unicom frequency and he could pick out morse coded messages being clicked around, it was pretty neat.

So, if you wanna impress you instructor, learn morse.

That's also a good way for you student pilots to teach yourself the Phonetic Alphabet as well! I did that when I was learning and I picked it up lightning fast!

User997, I have to ask. Who is that girl? And what can't she do? What does being morman have to do with it?

Just curious.

Hmmmm, in my opinion, the previous two pics were better than this one, it's just not cutting it for me.

While we're on this topic... why in the world can't the just play the name of VORs over the station in English? Especially considering they can do things like play HIWAS, TWEBs, and FSS transmissions.
