Severe earthquake in France. T oday it was reqorted that a severe earthquakes have occurred in 10 different locations
in France. The severity was measured in excess of 10 on the Richter Scale. The cause was the 56,681 dead american soldiers buried in French soil rolling over in their graves. According to the American Battle MonumentsCommission there are 26,255 yankee dead from World War 1 buried in 4 cemeteries in France There are 30,426 American dead from World War 11 buried in 6 cemeteries in France. These 56.681brave american heroes
died in their youth to liberate a country which is guilty of shameful
unspeakable behavior in the 21 century. May the United States of America never forget their sacrifice as we find ways to forcefully deal with the godforsaken unappreciative, forgetful country of France. Pass this around, maybe it will get to someone in France.

Amen!

I know this is going to be an unpopular viewpoint, but those American soldiers died so that France could be FREE, not subservient to the US. Being a native of England I have no great love of the French (its a genetic thing for us), but they do have that same God-given freedom that Mr. Bush wants to give the people of Iraq.

I'm all for removing Saddam Hussein from power, but at the same time the path the US is travelling down worries me. The lack of respect for opposing viewpoints is not the way this country is supposed to operate.

I dont oppose the coming war, but I'm a bit nervous about the way diplomacy has gone out the window to be replaced by name-calling. It sets a troubling precedent.

A nervous and whining brit??

say it isn't so......

On our return from the Middle East, I'm not at all opposed to swinging by France and wiping them off the map too. Worthless surrender monkeys.

At least we got the French out of "french fries." The world still doesn't realize how pissed off we still are about 911. It has changed our lives and ruined things here, so it is about time the world feels our rage.

I love it, pilots digging their own graves. You'd think that you wouldn't want to lose your jobs (current estimates are that an Iraqi War will cause 75,000 U.S. airline lost jobs - today, AP Reuters newswire).

You would think pilots (to save their own carriers and minimize the risk of future terrorist retalation) would be with the French, the Vatican, Jimmy Carter, the UN, etc.

But then again, what do a bunch of fat, stupid, arrogrant U.S. pilots know.

Well, let us examine this for a minute. Lets start with the last comment "fat, stupid..."

A great number of pilot's are dedicated and decorated former military pilots, and a large number still serve with pride in our guard and reserve units. They guaranteed the very freedom for which you voice your opinion on this board and around your town. Therefore, if they are fat, stupid and arrogant, by God then, they deserve it because they earned the right! However, given their current and past occupations, I doubt stupid would be the adjective that would be used.

Now, to be "with" the French. Why? Please tell me why! We have bent over backwards, sacrafising blood, sweat and tears for that country. WWI, WWII, Viet Nam. To stand back and watch them attempt to bribe other foreign countries to oppose the U.S., please, no comment necessary.

The Vatican. They will always be anti-war. For that matter, aren't we all? No one wants war. However, 18 resolutions and 13 years later, has Sadam done one thing to remotely convince anyone he's for peace?

Jimmy Carter. Oh please! It is widely known and reported the only reason he got a Nobel Peace Prize is that it was intended to be a slap in the face of the current administration. It was other parties that brought the middle east together for a summit. All Carter did was provide them an office in which to clear up their differences. It is shameful that any former President would fight any current U.S. administration, be they friend or foe.

The U.N. They have shown themselves to be without a back bone. Just how many chances do we give Iraq? How many more days? They've given him over 4,272 days to comply. He hasn't even come close. In the current resolution, 1441, he has been in "material breech" a number of times. If we give him another 4,272 days, do you honestly believe that will be the difference? The only difference that will make is for him to continue his quest and hatred for the U.S., to continue to arm terrorist groups with more lethal weapons to be used on us.

I don't like war. I don't want war. None of us do. But the time has come to do what is right and rid the middle east and the world of this tyrant.

I wonder how France would have felt in 1939-45 if America sat back and said "whats the rush to get Hitler? Let's give him 45 more days to leave France. Maybe a year. I'm sure if we talk about it enough he'll come to his senses and leave on his own." And today...there would be no French taught in our schools, or French schools for that matter!

I fully agree with your post and please please let me meet datatwit and let him give his views in person, I am quite sure that he would not have the balls.

Man, I never thought I would see the day when I was defending the French, but....

German forces entered France in May 1940. It was a heck of a lot more than 45 days before the US joined the battle. While us "nervous whining Brits" stood alone against the Third Reich the US was perfectly happy to stay out of things.

As for the US sacrificing for France in Vietnam, what exactly are you referring to? French forces left Vietnam in '56. The first US infantry units arrived in '65. I dont see think the US went into Vietnam to save the French.

If you are going to cite history to back up your arguments at least make it relevant.

I stand here corrected. No need to get testy ole chap. The 1939-45 reference was to WWII. And, yes, I know that Hitler was becoming a menace earlier in the 30s. It was a general reference.

Being a native of England I have no great love of the French (its a genetic thing for us).

I must have messed up your DNA! :D (just kidding my friend. Thanks for the date correction). However, the same argument still applies. That is, how many days must we wait?

With Humble Respect,

2000flyer,

Sorry, that last bit was uncalled for. No hard feelings, I just like a good healthy debate.

Like I said, I'm not opposed to removing SH. I just think this administration is doing a terrible job of justifying it to us and the world. If the overwhelmiing evidence of Iraq's WMD program is there as Bush claims, let us see it. Show me concrete evidence of the mobile bioweapons labs. Show me the underground facilities. If these places are that deep underground then the use of deep penetrating tactical nukes may even be justified. I just want to see the proof, not more rhetoric about "the war on terror".

If stopping another 9/11 is the main aim here then those 250,000 troops should be rounding up Al Queda. The Iraqi regime has no redeeming qualities whatsoever, BUT it does not have a proven history of supporting terrorist acts as we are defining them, and Saddam is certainly no friend of Bin Laden. Sure, he gassed 5,000 of his own people in '88, but back then he was our "friend"; supported by the Reagan administration and CIA as a way to counter Iranian fundamentalism. Was he denounced by the US government as a terrorist back then..?

On the other hand, North Korea DOES have a history of state sponsored terrorism (their intelligence service bombed a South Korean airliner a few years back-late 80s I think). Why are we not building a coalition to remove Kim from power?

I have to agree that the UN needs a miajor overhaul, but the Bush administration should be careful what it wishes for. If the Security Council suddenly decides that it WILL start enforcing resolutions it will put the US in a political perdicament when called upon to send forces to oust Israel from the West Bank.

I dont want to come across as a pacifist and I know about the lessons of the past. I just hate to see this country (which I love as my adopted homeland) degraded to the point where our senior statesmen and diplomats engage in name-calling when a foreign government dares to disagree.

It's even more frightening that pilots, who like to think they are a well educated, intelligent group advocate invading a democratic western country just because they disagree with us.

Am I the onkly one who sees the irony of going to war for the "freedom of the Iraqi people" while simultaneously threatening those who disagree with us?

Datasux,

Kinda makes me wonder how SOME of you Limeys and your friends, the Fleet Footed Froggies would feel if somebody demolished Buckingham Palace, The Tower of London and The Eifel Tower?

I think you believe that by opposing this war with Iraq you will somehow become immune from the 9/11 type of attack and I also think that you enjoy watching the USA squirm a little, trying to line up a solid coalition. The Froggies especially love it when we have to eat a little crow. In fact, I think that, and their under-the-table dealing with Saddam, is what their entire position on Iraq is all about. They are positively aglow. It's the first time I ever saw Jacques Chirac smile.

But, bad news 'ol top, you and your froggy friends can kiss their terrorist a$$es until your lips are chapped and as soon as they're able, they'll be coming after YOU.

IF, 75,000 pilots get laid off, which I very seriously doubt, how would that compare to the global calamity that would result should a wave of major strikes against a western nation occur? The most layoffs that might take place would be caused by the uncertainty that results from nothing being done to eliminate this threat.

Let's take your accusations by the numbers:

1. FAT

Well, you got us there Datasux. There are a lot of chubby Americans. Gosh, you're a natural born fountain of pure logic, you really know how to make a point. Oh, wait a minute. You weren't talking about our troops and our pilots that are getting ready to save your cockney bacon over in Iraq are you? I don't think too many of them are fat.

2. STUPID

As dumb as we are, we've got enough sense to know that the only way to stop them is to eliminate their sources of capital and supply, destroy the various organizations that endorse terror attacks and eliminate their leaders. Do you doubt for a minute that Saddam Hussein has supported al-Qaida and similar organizations? Or that as soon as he feels he has the military capablity he will attack his neighbors? If so, dear cousin, you might want to have someone check YOUR DNA for the moron mutation.

3. ARROGANT (you spelled it arrogrant, hope that's not that old syphilis problem croping up again)

Darn, that's two for you! But then, when you compare us to someone like yourself, well, you can understand why, can't you?

Don't worry though, we'll save you from yourselves ONE MORE TIME!!

North Korea and Iran, you're NEXT!

Just remember, more people were killed on 9-11 than were killed when japan attact Pearl Harbor. WE/I WILL NEVER FORGET! I BELIEVE THE DAYS OF WORSHIPING allah IN THIS COUNTRY ARE NUMBERED.

Flylo,

Are you aware that there are 45,000 British troops waiting to roll/fly/float/drop into Iraq too? Are you aware that the British government is actually on your side?

Your grip on world affairs seems tenous at best. It amazes me that folks cant seperate 9/11 from Iraq. Where is the evidence that the two are linked? It is Bin Laden's stated goal to topple Hussein's secular governement. There are a lot of countries with much stronger links to terrorism than Iraq (such as our current friends in Saudi Arabia). I am NOT against taking out Saddam Hussein, I just dont think this administration has done much to justify it beyond spouting rhetoric.

It's bad enough that people on here are making threats against the French for their point of view, but for the White House Press Secretary and Secretary of Defence to do it DOES make the US look like a bully in the eyes of the world (I know, I know, we'll just show the rest of the world our "wrath" too, that will solve everything)

Is there anyone on here whose view of world affairs isn't shaped entirely by the Fox News Channel?

There is a valid point here. Pilots will suffer the brunt of the economic impacts of the war. Nobody has brought this grim topic up...not once...instead I hear pilots constantly beating up on the French.

I do not want France to have the last laugh when they see me standing in front of a soup kitchen line begging for food because my airline went belly up. I believe in Karma...what comes around goes around. Pilots sitting around $#it-canning the French and wishing for War is not good Karma...and if you think your airline isn't going to furlough you...think again...we are all one paycheck away from being homeless.

The retoric on this particular thread is troublesome as well, and it reflects how a large portion of America feels. We are creating enemies faster than the Roman Empire during its slide as a world power. We are Rome, and history is repeating itself.

We are creating enemies faster than the Roman Empire during its slide as a world power. We are Rome, and history is repeating itself.

What do you worry ABOUT? LEARN a bit about HISTORY! The longest super power in history (Rome) lasted 200 yrs. Any guess about the USA?

BTW, since I know I'm dealing with? What was the term in years the last greatest super power existed in history? Get a clue!!!
WE WILL NEVER FORGET

Flywrite,

Apparently you are unaware that your government is, at this very moment ,in turmoil over whether or not to attend the forthcoming invasion of Iraq. The Canadians are now insisting that we extend the deadline past March 17th. Perhaps it is your grip on world affairs that is tenuous (not TENOUS, as you spelled it).

Of course, we all know that you have troops there. I understood the number to be 48,000. The question is, will they participate? I clearly capitalized the "SOME" in my previous post to indicate I knew that all the British were not opposed to this pro-active regime change.

How can you possibly doubt that Hussein is an active supporter of terrorist organizations? They HAVE proven he allowed al-Qaida recruits to train there. They HAVE proof that at least one of his ministers was meeting with al-Qaida leaders in Germany. And don't you think they have a whole lot more intelligence that they can't release because they have to protect their sources. I do. I don't believe George Bush is risking the lives of thousands of Americans and British soldiers and airmen just to throw his weight around. And even if all of the above is not true, you are surely intelligent enough to realize that, if left alone, he will someday attack his neighbors and wreak havoc in the region. That's what HE lives for! He doesn't give a da*n about anything but his own personal glory. He is a proven mass murderer and he wants more. He has to be stopped. I'll bet the people of Iraq will dance in the streets once they're sure he's gone.

Nobody (that matters) has threatened France. They may have expressed anger and dissappointment but nobody is threatening them. The consensus is: who needs 'em. Hell, we've got plenty of people ready to stand in reserve now.

And lastly, I don't have cable or satellite TV. I've never seen FOX news. How about you?

Karma, isnt that what all the leftwingers in Hollywood are crying about.

C'mon, WE ARE AT WAR!!

Don't you relize war was declared on us back on 09/11/01.

When will all this BS stop if we dont start with some action.

There are ties to terrorist and Iraq, among other countries. The time is now.

What do you want, Time Square to be hit with a small nuclear device, VX in the subway, South Beach leveled.

Our country is in turmoil, yellow alerts, blue allerts, who gives a rats a$$, its time we took action against the people that want to do us harm, we know who they are, support the President, support the troops, the time is now. Not 10 years from now when we all are looking over our shoulders.

These European countries that oppose us have economical ties to Iraq, they have other motives other than not wanting to go to war. Yeah, let the inspectors have more time, I say time wasted.

Yup folks, it was a fat dumb and happy place untill that fateful day, probobly not unlike 12/07/41.

It's soooooo simple.

Follow the money.

France is the largest importer of Iraqi oil and the biggest trading partner with Iraq in euroweenie land. Also France has been selling them weapons ILLEGALLY probably since '91.

Russia is owed 6 billion or better by Iraq, and you can probably bet that they have also been selling Iraq illegal weapons.

Germany is the second largest trading partner with Iraq in euroweenie land. They're involvement, it is rumored, has been a little more secret. You can bet that many of the underground facilities that Sadnuts is using were built by German firms.

China also a large trading partner with Iraq, and has been selling them weapons illegally since after the gulf war. The rest of Sadnuts's underground facilities were built by the chi-coms.

What do these countries have in common? They each have a huge economic stake in seeing Sadnuts remain in power. They each have a huge interest in seeing America not be a super power anymore. Then the chi-coms can establish their spheres of influence in the Pacific rim. France and Germany become economic superpowers in euroweenie land and dictate policy to the rest of the world. Russia is basically in the same boat as the krauts and frogs.

That's just my two cents about that.

Let's just make up a little scenario....

You are the President of the United States, you know that Iraq has mobile weapons plants, stockpiles of WMD's, and the will to use them. You know this because all your intelligence agencies bring this evidence to your desk every day. Also, you are trying to pursue a disarmament of Iraq because of these weapons that you know he has. Your adversaries (look above) are publicly demanding that you "give proof" so that your actions will be "legitimate" in their eyes. You also know that in sharing your information publicly and with the government of an adversary that your sources will be found and people will die, and you will not have any more intelligence on these weapons. Would you sacrifice your men/women and intelligence abilities to try to placate nations who don't want you to succeed? No, mum's the word and you let them dig themselves a big whole and when the smoke clears you give it to them with both barrels. Now ask yourself why the Bush administration doesn't just "give the proof"?

This is a political move that is pure genius. Bush is going to oust a dictator that has been a problem for everybody since he got into power, our "good friends" the frogs, krauts, ruskis, and chi-coms are going to eat a big-fat-f*cking crow sandwich, and at the same time our blitzkreig-style attack on Iraq is going to scare the living poop out of Iran and North dog-eating-land.

Oh yeah, not to mention that the Iraqis are going to be driving big-ass escalades and expi's instead of Peugots and Mercedes.

Just a prediction...I sure hope I'm right.

France and Germany have very large muslim populations that pretty much crowd the bottom rungs of the social ladder. (I hope) we all know that if one civilian (especially a kid) gets killed by a US bomb, the whole muslim world will be up in arms. The US has a very small muslim population that is being scrutinized by the government, and it's a population that has better things to do than fight a war within the US. The ones in Germany and France have little to lose (very high unemployment rate, no future prospective) and I think the goverments of those 2 countries are very afraid of getting some serious unrest, kind of like the Rodney King riots in LA.
Up to 9-11 the US had not seen much of terrorist activity, luckily. In Europe that has been a way of life for a long time: IRA, RAF, mafia,ETA, Abu Nidal and a few others. Just like a lot of other countries around the world, and the US never cared about it. Some kind of not-in-my-backyard philosofy. And I guess we all thought it would never happen here. @##$$% Bastards. If their goal was to disrupt our way of live, they succeded. Economy down the drain, airlines bankrupt, thousands of people out of a job and nobody who trusts someone else (crews that still have a job face that every day at the security checkpoint))

I totally agree that SH, bin Laden and his idiots have to go, the sooner the better. But sometimes there's more than just one solution (like a small group of special forces, make it look like an in-house assassination,or what you read / see in the book/ movie Clear And Present Danger).
And regarding the French Fries, they were invented in Belgium, they are large and are supposed to be eaten with mayonaise out of a pointed papersack. So call those skinny pieces of fried potatoe something like American Fries;)

Yes, the Brits bravely stood alone. But originally PM Chamberlin (sp?) wanted to bury his head in the sand and was happy to stay out of things. It took the "vision" of Churchill, et.al. to rally the Lion into challenging the Nazis.

Once upon a time (allegedly) in a nice little forest, there
>lived an orphaned bunny and an orphaned snake. By a surprising
coincidence,
>both were blind from birth.

>One day, the bunny was hopping through the forest, and the snake was
>slithering through the forest, when the bunny tripped over the snake

>"Oh, my," said the bunny, "I'm terribly sorry. I didn't mean to

>In fact, since I'm also an orphan, I don't even know what I am."

>"It's quite OK," replied the snake. "Actually, my story is much the

>what you are, so at least you'll have that going for you."

france is different - like their legal system really consists of five lawyers in a courtroom all yelling at each other.

i like their recent statement about "not going along with the logic of ultimatums"

Maybe after all this is over, our country will realize what the French are all about, and relieve themselves of all their Falcon's and Airbus's.

Makes me want to puke when I get on an "American" Airlines flight that is using an Airbus. Makes me gag when I see that Ford has sold their Gulfstreams and purchased new Falcons.

How would Ford like it if I traded in my F250 for a Fiat? What would Don Carty say if I bought Air France tickets to Dallas?

We should be ashamed of ourselves. What's next, an Air France commuter airline called Freedom?

Ford, GM and Chrysler produce 70% of the parts that go into our "American" cars in Mexico and Brazil. Many "American" manufacturers have the components made foreign countries and they assemble it here in the USA...so much for buying American.

This B.S. about buy "American" is what corporate america wants you to believe. It's not that simple anymore. We now live in a global economy.

The "made in the USA" Boeing 777 we love so much? Well, Mitsubushi Heavy Industries makes a $hit load of the components on the 777.

And the last time I checked...not a single Regional Jet is made by a U.S. manufacturer. So everytime you guys jumpseat on a regional jet, you can thank the U.K. (Avro), Canada(CRJ), Brazil (ERJ) and Germany (Dornier) for the ride!

I think when all is said and done, we can agree to disagree with the French. They are looking out for themselves and their financial interests just like everyone else, and however annoying it may be they are not the enemy. What about Mexico? They have taken a similar stance on this issue even though it's obvious the U.S. has been their welfare system for many years. Ultimately it will be the decision of the Commander-in-chief and Congress what the U.S. does, it's clear the U.N. doesn't have the resolve to make a decision or a date and stick with it.

I can't believe some of you would sell out justice to protect your little 'ol flying job. I lost mine and I'll gladly change careers before I whore my morals out just to keep myself in an airplane.

This attitude is worse than a scab's rationalization.

Just how badly do you need to fly? I do not define myself by my job. Sorry for those who do.

Thanks Flywrite...

Thanks for bringing up some lucid points on this topic. I remember seeing a poll the other day that said some 40% of Americans think the September 11th hijackers were Iraqi. I think that is very troubling. A great number of people in this country trust their leaders to do their thinking for them. When the president holds a "press conference" about going to war with Iraq and mentions 9/11 eight times, its no wonder some people are confused.
What troubles me is the lack of debate in this country about this important topic. This thread is an excellent example, you are either with the administration, or you should go live somewhere else. I think the founding fathers were very wise when they gave Congress the power to declare war. I am particularly angry that the last Congress gave away that power with very little debate, and without a serious consideration of the consequences of war. I don't like the precedent of being the first Americans to attack a nation without provocation. I know, remember 9/11. Let's think about 9/11. 3000 Americans dead. Think about the last time you went to a baseball game, what were there 45,000 people? (Except for you Marlins fans) 3000 people were killed and we are willing to let the government take away many of our freedoms. We are willing to let the President make all the decisions about going to war, a President who likes to make decisions by categorizing problems as black or white, good vs. evil, and God vs. the devil. The world has many more shades of gray to it, unfortunately. After 9/11, almost every country on earth called us to ask what they could do to help. Now less than two years later, we have turned into the second most reviled nation on earth. We could have had all of those nations on our side in Iraq, had we handled the diplomacy more delicately.
But what if Iraq attacks us? The cornerstone of our defense for the last 50 years has been: attack us, and we will annihilate your country in days if not minutes. That has been an effective strategy, no state has dared to attack us. Now we are saying that we are afraid to take one on the chin, that we need to attack any nation that MIGHT attack us. This is Paul Wolfowitz's doctrine that he first presented in 1991. I hope this doesn't lead to new strategic alliances among our enemies and even some of our current allies. What would a Russian, French, German, and Chinese military alliance do to the stability of the world? What would it cost us to deter it?
We are the most powerful nation on earth. Everyone knows this. The UN would have played along with us, but when you start giving nations the finger and telling them they aren't significant, then they get their dander up. We would be just as outraged if we were on the other side of the Atlantic, or the Pacific for that matter.
