Nice post, Flylow.
I am an SIC on the XL. For the most part, that just designates who is doing what to get the airplane ready for the flight. The SIC is generally responsible for getting the inside of the plane ready (catering, coffee, cleaning, etc...) while the PIC is dealing with fueling, post/pre flighting, etc...
Once the cockpit door is closed, we are both typed pilots able to fly with some small experience constraints outlined in the FOM. You can even switch seats if you want and fly left seat on empty legs if you want.
