Subic Closing: In an e-mail message to pilots today, the system chief pilot
announced the company’s intention to close the Subic Bay hub and pilot domicile
there in late 2008. Captain Lewis indicated that the company is giving such
early notice of its intentions in order to provide the employees in Subic
adequate time to plan for this change. In addition, today the company publicly
announced plans to build a new Asia hub in Guangzhou, China, which will begin
operations in December 2008. According to Captain Lewis, there are no definitive
plans at this point as to if there will be an Asian domicile or where it would
be located if there were one.
